Joe's still has lots to learn. Ten of us were there recently on a slow night. We ordered and shortly thereafter our food began coming out, dish by dish by dish, long before our drinks ever showed up. Several people finished their meals before others received theirs. This is totally unacceptable and we do not plan to return.

Unfortunately I had done takeout and was unable to return my food.
The food was terribly prepared. I asked for medium scrambled eggs and received wet runny scrambled eggs. My friend also saw the eggs and was appalled. I also ordered steak with my eggs, which was very bland. It's a shame I've ordered steak and eggs at least 3 times before and never had a problem with medium scrambled eggs. Once the steak was delicious. I talked to the Owner, Roland from Germany. Who said he oversaw that meal and the meal was prepared perfectly. After explaining to the owner he had no idea what he was talking about, he eventually said he would watch it more. But he did not care about my experience. My friend also paid for food with the takeout order and complained the chicken was overcooked. We told the owner we got a $10 meal for $40, he showed no evidence of caring and did not offer our money back, any free food or even a 10 percent discount on our next meal. My opinion, this owner is just a cheap dog trying to take money our of Santa Fe. We will not be going back because of his poor attitude.
Pros: Near my House
Cons: Overcharge, poor attitude

Today we went to Joe's for a bite to eat. We arrived at 3:05. We were told by the young man with the white shirt, military-looking haircut, and tie, that the brunch menu was still being served. We would have gladly ordered from the regular menu, but when he said we had time to order from the specials.
The guy with the tie, who was at the counter almost the entire time, has some real problems. He did not work the entire time. I overheard him talking to a teen-age boy who brought our bread (VERY nice young man.) He was telling this kid how he has seen some "HOT" girls. He went on to describe the women in great and offensive detail, and then told the kid how he had grabbed one of their "asses" and when the girls turned around to see who had violated her, and the Joe's employee said he looked the other way. It was a disgusting story. I was sorry the teen age boy had to hear it. The older guy (20's - 30's?) with the tie, I suppose, was trying to impress ? the teen ager. Strange in itself.
Then he came to our table to tell us (40 minutes after we ordered!) that the brunch menu was no longer being served. The waiter had been out just 10 minutes prior to ask what kind of chile we wanted on the Rancheros. The guy with the tie said they were understaffed. There were at least 6 - 7 employees on staff. There were only 2 of us and 4 other people eating. It was a ridiculous excuse. I demanded the check and we left.
I think the most upsetting part of the experience was his vile story told to the teen age boy. Technically, he described a criminal offense. I would not want a guy like this on my pay role.
He did not apologize and had quite a rude attitude. I did not want to wait another 40 minutes to be served. We were charged over $15. For 2 coffees and 2 small cups of soup. I left the waiter a tip since it was not his fault, and left hungry and 20 dollars lighter.
I will not be back to Joe's.

We'd been to Joe's several months ago and had fairly decent food and service. Last Saturday evening we invited friends to join us for dinner. The restaurant was not busy, yet the service was absolutely pathetic (the waitress could not pronounce the names of the entrees or drinks, the food did not come out in synch or on time, etc.) and the food was oversalted, tasteless and totally boring. We made a complaint to the owner/manager, were given four coupons for future meals, but we do not plan to return there ever again. When we left at 8:00, the restaurant was virtually empty - this being on a Saturday night, a busy night for most restaurants. Santa Fe has too many other good restaurants where we can be treated better and get tastier food on time.
Pros: None.
Cons: Poor service and dreadful food.

Not really a diner, far far better than a lot of "fine" dining establishments. Seems that everyone knows everyone there. Went for the dinner special that night and had possibly the best roast duck I've ever had with pear-mashed potatoes and BBQ red cabbgage with a quince sauce. Jeez, does that sound like a diner? Great music also - someone there has outstanding ear for music and what makes people feel comfortable. The menu is huge so looking forward to returning with friends.
Pros: nice wine list, great amiance, take-out
Cons: closed Mondays

Joe's Diner is one of the best places I have ever been. I was shocked when I walked into this "diner" and found that as well as the usual burgers and fries, the menu included so many other "fine" dining items and the prices were outstanding. The special was organic pumpkin wonton ravioli, which I couldn't resist. It was topped with a delicate butter sage sauce that was delectable. I was able to sit down, enjoy a beautiful wine and was tempted by the desserts but decided on a hazelnut mocha instead. It was by far the best atmosphere and dining expeirence I have had in quite a while.

This is not a ordinary Diner, only the prices are diner like. This full service kitchen prepared Rack of Lamb on a mesquite fired grill to perfection, the Roast Duck was crispy and tender and fingerlicking goood. A small selection of wines by the glass perfectly matched for food and season. A Black 'n Tan came perfectly layered, The Hamburger was Rare as ordered and the fresh, housemade mozzarella tasted like real "fiore di latte".
Pros: inexpensive, great selection, open all day
Cons: closed mondays
