When I moved back to Santa Fe after a long time on the east coast, I had a very hard time finding a stylist who would work with me. After receiving the worst haircut of my life at a nearby salon, I bit the bullet and went to Wink, despite the cost. Rob now cuts my hair regularly, and he's given me consistently good cuts. I enjoy my visits with Rob and I wish I could afford to go more frequently, because a visit at Wink is a lot like a little vacation. What I like about Wink is that they are honest and willing to give real feedback about different cuts I might want, and that they will work with me to help me maximize the cuts I receive. When I wanted color, he helped me find the right color, and he did a terrific job at adding highlights without making them too overbearing. I also like that they have high-end products on sale but I have never been pressured into buying a product just because they carry it in their shop. In all, Wink offers excellent service, great cuts, and a soothing atmosphere. My only complaint is their prices.
Pros: Expert and professional staff, great atmosphere.
Cons: Price

When I moved to Santa Fe a year ago, I thoroughly researched where I should go to get my very thick, very frizzy, unruly hair cut. I ended up at Wink and met a stylist named Edward. He was great. Very proessional and very experienced. He has since left Wink, and so I went to a new salon not far away. Well, it was the worst haircut I ever had, and I was deeply disappointed because their website makes it sound fabulous. I won't mention the name here, but you'll see my review of it if you scan other salons on this site. In the meantime, I called Wink for desperate help and was teamed up with a stylist named Angelo. I was very nervous, and I told him I had just had the worst cut ever. He sat me down and did his magic. He is the best! I love my new cut. I have gotten several compliments on it, some from strangers, and it has only been one day. I highly recommend Wink. I have had nothing but great haircuts from Wink. Thanks Angelo!! I'll be back in two weeks for color.
Pros: Convienent location, professional atmosphere
Cons: A little pricey, but worth it

I recently moved here from Manhattan in New York. Of course, moving is always so painful especially when having to leave your favorite hairstylist. I have been searching for a hairstylist here in Santa Fe that would be similar to expertise and taste as my stylist in New York. After going to Paper Rock Scissor and receiving the worst possible consultation, I left and decided I would go to WINK since it was purportedly rated the best in Santa Fe by Harpar's and Town and Country. So I went for it, even though it would be a little extra $$.
Well, I am disappointed that I was caught in a switch bait tactic. Not only did I receive poor service and results than advertised but it was like going to supercuts! I expect when going to a salon that my stylist have a great attitude especially when I am paying beaucoup $$ and should not be merely a haircutter or colorist but an expert.
I thought I would go in and my stylist would say, "I recommend this that or the other" not, "how do you want your hair". That's why I go to salons, for expert help! If I knew what I wanted I'd do it myself! In addition, my highlights came out coppery in my dark hair it looks like I used store dye and a cap. My stylist in New York somehow without hesitation or huffing and puffing managed to create beautiful highlights and lowlights. WINK salon seemed very annoyed that I wanted highlights in my dark brown hair. My haircut ended being very boring and common as well.
Someone I met who recently moved from London suggested Cactus. I will go there next time and hopefully find a stylist opposed to just a haircutter who is burnt out on their job.
In addition, not to be ageist but everyone there was probably over 50, it's time for them to catch up to the times.
Bizarre experience!
Pros: Lots of products - has a store front.
Cons: "stylist" there is just a haircutter who had very bad taste.
