My friend Willie took me to Tofu House today. Neither of us is Korean, but he said he's totally addicted to the "food of fire." Eating here was literally like eating fire - this was the hottest stuff I've eaten in a while.
It's clean, quick, cheap, and comfy. The menu is trivial - only about a dozen options. The Korean apps are great - like all korean restaurants you end up with a pile of stuff to munch on while the food is prepared.
I asked for mine "extra spicy." I got tofu / veggie / kimche soup. It came with an egg which I cracked and poured in the soup. I stirred and within 15 seconds it was fully cooked.
Fire. I ate fire for the next 15 minutes. Fire. I'm still thinking about fire. Awesome.
If you like spicy / hot food, this is the best. $17.50 for two people. Unreal.

The specialty here is the spicy tofu soup. They add other ingredients based on which version you order, some of the most popular ones have seafood or beef. The broth is pretty spicy because the main ingredient is red chili, which gives it its reddish tone. During the peak times (weekend lunch and dinner) the line can be so long that it spirals out the door. The food is good, but its not THAT good.

as we no longer live in the 1980s, the general public knows that korean cuisine is not limited to "korean bbq." el camino real, here in the heart of silicon valley, which is america's _real_ heartland, one can find such a good variety of korean and south asian restaurants. anyway, yes, korean "soon tofu" has become really popular in the u.s. over the past decade.
sogongdo tofu house is what's called a soondubujip in korean. it's a place that serves soondubu jjigae, pretty much made to order. at any respectable soondubujip, the server asks you what you want in your stew, how spicy you want your stew, if you want an egg in it, and if you want the leftover rice from the stone pot to be made into nooroongji. sogongdo tofu house does _most_ of these things, and the service is friendly. at one time, they boasted how they used organic tofu, but i can't say for sure whether they still do or not.
i really like soondubu and sgd tofu house is a good restaurant, but as a local, i'll recommend myungdong soonodubujip just up el camino real at halford behind the burger king. the service there is just as friendly, but they provide a more authentic korean soondubujip experience at a lower price.
having said that, let me emphasize that sgd tofu house is still also good.

This Korean tofu soup place is a decent place to go. A little to expensive for me, but not too bad. Their main focus is tofu, but I did not particularly enjoy this dish. The other dishes were pretty goof. The place might be a good place to visit, but be sure to avoid it like the plague when the line stacks out of the door.
