This record store is a nice alternative to shopping online and the big box retailers. You can find used and new, old and current albums and CDs. The staff is helpful and the selection is good. It is nice to see that the local stores haven't been swallowed up and you can actually afford to buy something and see it in person without having to spend the full price big box prices.

Going to Tower Records has been very memorable to me over the years. It used to be much harder to get to, and only in the cooler parts of town. Then it was more accessible, but only the cool people worked there. Then they opened some Tower Outlets and I found some great deals. Now they have finally declared bankruptcy and I'm sad. Of course I haven't gone CD shopping much lately, but I will miss it when it's gone. Right now they have 40-60% off the stock that they have left. There are some deals to be had, but much of the full price stuff is 18.99 to start with, so even 60% off it's not cheaper than other places. Maybe you could go back just for one more chance.

You can go to The Links at Mariners Point to hone your golf skills on the driving range, or practice a short game on the chip and putt course (9 holes) they have. Or, you can do what I do and go there to have fun on the putting course. Putting courses are not prevalent, and they're very similar to miniature golf you may find at a amusement park, but you use an actual golf putter and golf ball and try to sink your ball into actual holes. I guess the idea is to simulate the green on a golf course, so you can practice your putting skills, but they designed the course such that there are hills at different places and even sand traps. The best part of the course is that they actually move the holes around on a weekly or bi-weekly basis. Putting is pretty easy (but hard to be good) and anyone can enjoy it. I would recommend it to anyone.

The golf course was renovated a few years ago, however renovating did not make this place any better. In truth, the golf course itself is not bad, I'd say it's pretty good after the renovation. The reason why this place is bad is because of the people who work there. The people who work there are awfully rude, which makes the the whole experience very unplesant. That's why it's a waste of money to go there so I would suggest going somewhere else .

I have been to three birthday parties at Peninsula Gym and each time has been memorable and enjoyable for my son. I understand that there are two parties at the same time, but we always end up being at the same place. The kids get to do a gymnastics routine (parents can watch but do not participate) and then there is a party room (or two, we've always been in the same room) where you can bring snacks and cake. The gymnastics routine is fun and the kids really enjoy themselves and look forward to the next party.

My son totally loves the music school and the teacher Julie. (there were another teacher he loves that I can't remember the name of..) I've visited gymboree and kindermusik classes prior to going to the music school. Honestly, there is absolutely no comparison. I think the teachers inspires children's love for music and sound. They are kind and patient to kids. Kids really do learn something here about music. Most importantly, they learn to love and enjoy music while feeling good about themselves.

This place has a unique selection of world instruments, which is perhaps its strength. There are all corners of the world represented, from little belly dance symbols from Turkey to hand drums from Africa. They also carry major brands of musical electronic equipment and amps from Peavey and more. The store is fairly well stocked, and it has musical toys, recorders, and other fun percussion things suitable for kids. It's never very busy, so you get individual attention as well.

My husband and I love the theater, but honestly, it's too expensive at this stage in our life (I'm a SAHM and we have two small children) to see a Broadway touring show in the city and to spend $30 on the sitter just for the travel time (as well as the running time of the show.) We live in Foster City and are able to have a night out for a reasonable amount and get back right after. We saw 1776 here a few years back and Tapestry last year. Usually, there is a children friendly show (Cinderella and Secret Garden are the ones I remember). I hope to take my son and daughter to Oliver in a few months. They also do a children's conservatory program, which I think is through the San Mateo Rec center or maybe through the school district.

Gymboree has really gone down in the past 5-6 years. I used to take my oldest and the classes were fun and the staff was nice. Then when I took my middle child the classes were not as good and the staff not as interested. Even the trainers needed to use crib sheets to know what songs to sing in the class! If you do do a Gymboree class and/or birthday party this is the best one in the area, however. The birthday parties are better, only you can only bring cake and juice, no food, and you can only have a certain number of kids (20) which limits the party often.

Coyote Point is a really nice place to visit when you want to see animals (they have a small "zoo"), want to be inside, or otherwise need to entertain your kids. It is really convenient to 101 and downtown San Mateo. They have summer, spring, and winter camps for kids, and "Toddler Tuesday" where there is some craft project for toddlers.
Unfortunately, there is talk of closing this museum down. I wouldn't be surprised if the local yacht club and golf course wants to take over the gorgeous land it rests on. This would be a big disservice to the kids (and adults) of San Mateo and surrounding communities.
