I love the Border here in San Mateo. They have one of the best staff and cleanest places I’ve ever seen. They have leather coach for people to sit on and now that they carry Seattle’s Best Coffee, it is soo much better! I love the coffee, but sad to see the reward goes… (buy 11 get 12th free). However, with their new Border Rewards program, you can earn a cash back from all the books you buy there. So I really like that! The comics are good and they don’t have those stupid big tags/stickers at the back of the comic book (so if you’re a collector like me, you want it clean and pristine). I find they have a pretty good selection of Mangas here. Especially shoujo mangas like Girl Got Game, Ouran High School Host Club and W-Juliet. The people are handy and really nice!

I have been visiting this store since it opened. There is a Barnes & Noble right down the street but I usually come here because I like the atmosphere. I have studied at the cafe and the employees don't bother you and it is fairly quiet. Service is good as cashiers are courteous and will call backup if big lines form. I always get Borders Gift Cards so I like to peruse the music section and buy the music CD's. The book section is good too. I like to visit the section on history of San Mateo County and read the articles. Cons: A few times I've been to the store and was unable to find a book that was available online.

I really like this border b/c the people are so nice! The new cafe that opened up is wonderful, they always have samples and the places look likes a cafe where you can just sit and read. The intercom is rarely used and the music is low enough that won't bother you, but loud enough for you to enjoy. There are leather couches all over the place and overall wonderful places to read and hang out.

While in the San Mateo neighborhood looking for a good book to read, I would suggest going somewhere other than this Borders location, for your needs. A problem with this location is where it is, next to a busy street which makes it hard to get off of to reach. Borders has a decent selection of books, however they generally tend to only carry one or two copies of a book at a time which makes it hard for students to get their reading material. This location also lacks help because you need to go to the customer service desk if you need to find something. I would say your best bet is to go somewhere else, and spend your money elsewhere. PROS: books, music and cafe in one. CONS: location, help.

I go there often on weekends. For those with a busy schedule, this is a great place to be. there are plenty of sitting arrangements. It's clean, quite. The books are always organized. Thie customer service is great. if you'r looking for a book just walk up to the counter and ask. Someone will find it for you. Their selection of books is great. And the store has loads of parking . Just adjacent to Hillsdale mall so if you want a break, or a bite, just walk up to the mall. A good book store in San Mateo.
