This comic book store sells many popular comics. Some of their collection dates back to the 1930s, they even have collectors issues. Not only do they sell comic books; they also sell graphic novels, alternative comics and Japanese comics. The only bad thing about this place is it's location. It's really hard to find parking there because this store is located on a very busy street.

I have frequented this little comic store for ages and they always have a great selection. What I like about the store is that they have a strong collection of comics outside of mainstream (e.g. Marvel, DC) that I often had problems finding through other places. The employees are nice and friendly, and good to debate about characters and possible future storyline plots. As they are a collectible shop, they make sure to keep their stock in prim condition and always package their merchandise in protective coverings (and a cardboard backing for the comics).

The sign says it all. . .it's a faded out Sprite ad from the sixties that has never been changed. Doesn't matter, it's still 3rd Avenue News. Next door the Ben Franklin Hotel has seen better days, and the library has temporarily moved but the store survives despite the drop in business. Probably because they sell the most basic of stuff. They have a good selection of local and national newspapers, tobacco products, sodas, snacks and junk foods like candy, and a few novelties. You don't even have to go inside of the store, a window at the street level and a rack of newspapers on the sidewalk let's you do your business from a car with hazard lights on at the curb.

More
Bob's Collectibles was part of the small antiques row located behind Safeway at 17th ave. Last month, they closed after having a huge sale. They have moved to a new location on 37th avenue in San Mateo, one that is smaller and less expensive. I overheard the co-op dealer at Bob's mention that the rent at the old location was three thousand a month, and it really was huge. It was full too. But check them out at the new store, because life goes on.
