You can get 40% off coupons weekly in the San Mateo local paper and the San Francisco Chronicle and Michael's has a great selection of wedding items, scrapbooking, knitting, basically any craft you can think of. I use the coupons for magazines, books, even wrapping paper! They also have some good kids' birthday gifts, like Magnetix and kid crafts, which you can use your coupon on!

I like Jo-Ann Fabrics and Crafts because I can get great deals there. I don't want to tell everyone about their specials - but i just can't keep it inside. After each holidays, they have 75% sales on the holiday merchendise. And every week - they have some sort of special going on - usually around 40%. I love the store - I go burgain hunting there every week and get really good deals on everything: crafts, art, fabric, etc..

Vanessa's Needlepoint and Knitting moved to B Street from a more obvious location in downtown San Mateo relatively recently, so I was interested in checking out their location. As a knitter and not a needlepointer (?), I find their store not interesting. They appear to have a small amount of yarn, shoved together by color (the worst yarn organization scheme, I think) and I have yet to buy anything there because there is just nothing interesting. It feels like "Knitting" is just an afterthought when it became more popular. Also, their hours are pretty bad. Every time I have stopped by they are closed! I am often about a block away visiting other businesses and have just given up even trying to visit this store.
