Zocalo Coffeehouse is an ideal coffeehouse... good, friendly service, comfortable chairs and couches... comfortable atmosphere... easy in and out parking. The owners are trying to use this business not only to make a living, but to make the neighborhood a better place. My wife and I like to take our toddler aged kids their to the play area. We live in Oakland and consider it a special treat to drive to San Leandro to go to Zocalo. I wish they would open another store in Oakland!

I defected to Zocalo Coffeehouse on Bancroft Avenue (near Dutton) in San Leandro. The atmosphere at Zocalo is what you can expect from a friendly, independent coffeehouse. It has couches, magazines for you to read, board games, etc. Zocalo offers free wireless internet. The coffee here is good. The service is excellent.
One time, I did not have enough cash. And they have a $5 minimum for debit card users. I was one dollar off, but the nice bartista still let me have my coffee.
The only problem is that Zocalo is not open at night. It is probably because San Leandro is a geriatric "bedroom community." Hopefully as Zocalo gets more business, they'll extend their hours.
