This is the kind of place that would be neat and interesting and unusual everywhere, but even more so smack dab in the middle of San Jose. Surrounded by strip malls and a movie theatre this grand house is the last hting you'd expect to see on the outside, but it is even more so on the inside!
The WInchester Firearms heiress who built the house believed that if she did not lalways have construction going on it she would suffer a terrible fate. So the house is full of bizarre nooks and crannies, staircases that go nowhere, hidden rooms and other bizarre things. There are many tours of the house and they are all worth taking. Especially fun are the mystery themed tours they do at Halloween.
Give yourself a treat and try this place out!

The truly great thing about this place is that you dont really see a lot of places like it. Have you ever been in a house that is supposedly haunted? I dont think I have, before this. The whole time I was hear i was really freaked out. I am one of those people who is afraid of EVERYTHING! I was holding on to my sister so tightly! Other people who have gone have told me that they actually got lost there. I can't even imagine what I would do or how I would get out. They lead tours and tell you about it. You see all the random staircases and doors that lead absolutly nowhere. Try it, if you dare.

Great tour, knowledgeable guides. However, not sure about the"mystery" part! Seems to me that the true Sarah Winchester/Winchester House history/story is way more intriguing than all the "legends," "mystery," etc. etc.! Read the pamphlet (for sale in the Gift Shop) written by the people that knew her.
Hard to imagine how this lady spent her days and what her (seemingly very loyal) servants thought of her and having to make their way through this rabbit warren!
Food very pricey (bottle of water and bag of chips $5.45) but goes toward keeping the place up, so justified the price in my mind.
All in all, enjoyed the place very much....different...good day trip from SF. Went on a Thursday; July 19, 2007; not too crowded and easy parking. Worth the admission and while no pressing reason to go a second time, would absolutely take visitors and/or recommend tour to others. Also recommend the "Behind the Scenes" tour; not much more $$ for some additional interesting info.
Ask if anyone has figured out the Cupertino Street address (the plans on the wall in the basement ...I believe for the either the boiler or elevator...indicates the house is on Cupertino???? Our guide said she had never noticed that before and would check it out!
Pros: Great guides, good parking, super interesting
Cons: Pricey food

My uncle took me here on my free day. I usually don't enjoy museums, but he thought that I'd like it since I am a geek. This place had lots of interesting old technologies and also history of how technology and innovation got to where they are now. Very enlightening. If you have kids, I recommend taking them there to give them some understanding of life before all these technologies. They will develop an appreciation for the technology and the things we have now.

This was an amazing experience and it was so cool. The staff was friendly and dissecting the gene of a jellyfish to bacteria was not so bad at all! FUN!

Streetlight Records is a fun place to hang out and browse the huge selection of media. The vinyl is fairly cheap and the selection is good (though not on par with Big Al's right down the street), and if you want to save a few bucks buying used, it is a great alternative to Best Buy, etc. The prices on new stuff are outrageous though, and it is not recommended for new releases.

This theater venue is really a nice and cozy environment. We recently saw Making Tracks (musical) and Avner the Eccentric (mime/clown) and enjoyed both. All of the lower level seats provide good viewing of the stage (we sat in the last row for Avner, row J middle for Making Tracks). The acoustics were good overall (Making Tracks) but the music was somewhat muffled. At first we couldn't tell if it was a live band or not. They're located behind the stage which may have diluted the music a bit, causing our confusion, is it live or is it Memorex. We're used to the theaters in SF where the orchestra is right up front. Overall, a very good theater to see live shows and musicals at a reasonable price. It's also really near lots of good restaurants so park in the parking lot next to the Rep and walk to any restaurant nearby (Spaghetti Factory, Peggy Sues, E&O Trading, Hawg's, Gordon Bierch).
