Hicklebee's offers a great selection of children and teen books. They have a small section for baby books, both soft and hardcover. Children's books are available in several categories including academic, science, and ficiton. Teen books are available in similar categories as well. Hicklebee's also has a nice selection of toys, dolls, and stuffed animals. Nearly every week, an author stops by to sign books and gives readings of their latest books. One of the biggest names to come to Willow Glen was JK Rowling.

Whether you are looking for books, magazines, music, or a place to relax and read for a little while, this it the place to go. Their selection of books is massive and you can find something on nearly any subject you want. There is a fun little coffee shop inside the store and you can get your drink, find a book or magazine and sit and read for however long you want. The layout of the store is easy to navigate so you don't get lost. The restrooms are usually pretty clean and well stocked.
I have been known to lose half a day in this store.

This is a two storey Borders on Santana Row (the bathroom is on the top floor). I love their "paperchase" section for their fabulous collection of journals, photo albums, notebooks, note cards, etc. Their Bargain Books are scattered throughout the store (mostly on the upper level) and offer some great deals! The staff at the info desk is helpful. I usually order from Amazon.

A rare find anywhere in the US, Kinokuniya Book Store offers a wide selection of Japanese literature and magazines as well as office supplies.
They magazines explore every interest and they have a selection that can challenge even the most behemoth of bookstores. Though you must be Japanese-literate to understand anything, I often have fun flipping through the craft and knitting magazines--browsing is permitted. They have a current selection of all books. The atmosphere is bright and open, parking is usually plentiful, but may be scarce on the weekends.
I highly recommend stopping buy. They also have a decent gift selection.

Roberts is your typical "small" bookstore competing with the larger campus bookstore at San Jose State. It has more of a small bookstore feel, but you can generally find better deals on book here than on the campus bookstore. They might not have as much stock, but if you go early, you can get a good deal on used or new books. And when you're done with your books, you can sell them back to Roberts and recoup some of the money you spent. You're not going to get as much as you'd like for your used books, but it's better than nothing (unless you need the books for later).

This is one of our favorite rainy day activities. The book store has a great selection of books, but more importantly, it has a fun play area for kids with a train table and story time on Mondays. The staff is always friendly and helpful. The only con is that there frequently aren't many trains to play with, so you're best off bringing a couple from home.

Overall its a good bookstore, with a decent selection of music. Like any large bookstore, the prices are relatively cheap.
Pros: Relatively cheap, good selection, close to the Cheesecake Factory (artery-clogging deliciousness!)

Even though it's part of a large chain, I really like this Barnes & Noble. The service is friendly and fast and they have a great children's section with nice tables and chairs so you can sit and browse through selections before buying. There are always discounts on all kinds of books and there is a nice size cafe located inside as well.
