Very low prices compared to any of the large box chain restaurants. Bill for 2 people, 2 drink + appetizer & tip $26. Was our first time there, waitress took about 5-10 minutes to explain everything in detail on the menu. She also brought us samples of a few of the drinks we had never tried. We've only been to 2 other Japanese (different than chinese food) restaurants and they have all been similar, though each with their own flair and style. Not something I would eat weekly, but every couple of months would be fun. As they got busier and busier we got less and less attention, had to wait awhile just to get our check. We are travelling across country read about where we go with movie, restaurant and travel location reviews at justyesterday.spaces.live. com.
Pros: Value (price for what you get), ambiance
Cons: none

I ate there last night with friends. Service is not five stars, but it is an asian place in san gabriel, what do you expect? What they lack in service, they more than make up for in food. I ordered the tenderous beef ramen, my boyfriend ordered the-I forgot the name, the one with lots of slices of pork on top, we ordered a mushroom shrimp tempura to share and I had their iced milk green tea. The ramen was, for lack of a less dramatic description, like heaven in a bowl. The best part about my ramen was the beef and the soup. The ramen was just ok. The mushroom tempura had a crispy fried outside, and when you bite into it, its like biting into mushroom broth. So good. The milk green tea I had was too milky and I wouldn't order it again. Everything was reasonably priced. The tab for my boyfriend and I with drinks, tax and tip came out to be around $27, not bad.
I can't wait to go back and try other items on their menu.
In response to the previous review, ramen IS the japanese version of a Chinese noodle "la mein". I've found that a lot of the japanese restaurants I've been to are actually owned by non-japanese owners. Weird thing was their food still tasted good and very real to me, not "fake" food at all.
Pros: food.
Cons: none yet.

I would pass by this restaurant at least 3x's a week for about 1 year and now I visit this place at least 1x a month. I would notice that they always had customers but I was reluctant to go inside, feeling it would most likely not replicate the real Japanese Ramen flavor, which was what I was looking for. I have been to Ramen joints in Japan and to my surprise, the Ajisen Ramen restaurant served ramen that is very close to the real flavor of Japan. Ajisen Ramen specializes in a soup base of pork called "Tonkotsu." The oil comes from the pork and is a full flavored soup. I do wish they had soy sauce ramen (my favorite) which is a clearer broth but I was still satisfied with their Curry Pork Cutlet Ramen, Beef Ramen and Premium Pork Ramen. You can also alter the flavor to tomato, mild Curry or Spicy hot flavor. What I also enjoyed was that the menu not only had ramen, there were rice dishes (love the Japanese and Eel fried rice), Pan Fried Noodles called "Yaki-Soba" and several tasty side orders called 'snacks' such as the Mushroom Shrimp Tempura, Fried Tofu, Kani Fish Roe Cucumber salad and homemade Gyoza (dumplings). Incidentally, their Asian drinks are pretty good and their small menu of desserts are cute :) If you don't mind a small Japanese family style restaurant (not the typical Beef-Teri or Chicken-Teri restaurant), in an out-door shopping center, it wouldn't hurt to go check it out and see for yourself. I prefer larger restaurants so I go to the Ajisen Ramen in Temple City. It's larger with 2 sections, stands alone with own parking lot and plenty of street parking. Price: $4.50 - $8.50

In cantonese Ajisen ramen is 'may cheen'. MSG in cantonese is 'may jing'. They should change the name of the regular ramen from 'may cheen ramen' to may jing' ramen'. That is what people in Hong Kong says it. Sure the soup is flavorful thanks to MSG, but a real chef does not need MSG to enhance food. The only thing worth calling on the menu is the original 'may jing' ramen. The other ramen just has extra fixings which is not worth the price. I also do not like the owner. I remember there were so many people waiting out in the hot sun and the owner was dining with some friend on a table where she could have gave it to the diners.
Pros: I don't know
Cons: MSG, owner

I usually just read reviews to look for new restaurants to try in my area but I decided to write this review because I read the previous person's review and think they don't know what they're talking about. I've been to Japan and there are 2 types of ramen, the curly kind and the straight kind. Both are delicious but I prefer the kind Ajisen serves (straight) because it's al dente, not as soggy as the curly kind. All the other Japanese restaurants that I've been to serve the curly kind. The menu is quite different from any other place I've tried and the quality of the food is consistently up to par. Besides the delicious main courses (my favorite being the curry ramen and eel rice), they have a big variety of wonderfully yummy appetizers! My favorites are the seaweed salad, california rolls, baked tofu topped with masago, enoki mushrooms wrapped with beef and dynamite. The wait staff is friendly (surprisingly because many Asian restarants give service without a smile) and knowledgable. I've gotten very good recommendations from them and have pretty much tried most of the menu. The things I haven't tried yet are the desserts because I'm usually so stuffed by the time I've scarfed down the appetizers and ramen, I don't have room for it! One of these days I'll control myself and order one less appetizer...or I'll start off with the dessert!
PROS: Delicious and priced reasonably for the quality and taste. Cute decor.
CONS: Not located by my work in Hacienda Heights.

Ajisen Ramen is average at best. Their food is not bad, but I belive if you're going to name your store something 'ramen', then your best food should be ramen, but in this case they failed that mission.
Soup is very greasy compared with other Japanese ramen place, if you're thinking of eating Japanese ramen then do not go to this place. Their food is ok but too much 'naming scheme' I tried Hokkaido Seafood Fried Rice today and it was just fried rice with ketchup sauce... I haven't been to Hokkaido, but I don't think Hokkaido's receipy for fried rice is ketchup.
Overall satisfaction is average at best, place is very small and parking can be horrendous at meal time so unless you really crave this average food, I recommend you to try other place
Pros: Average, not so bad food. Clean inside.
Cons: Small and crowded.

went to this place expecting real authentic Japanese ramen, extremely disappointed since I had real good ramen before in Asia with real broth and good quality noodles. This place used too much salt and spices and for anyone who can appreciate ramen THIS IS NOT RAMEN, I would simply call this noodle.
what really made the experience bad was when the manager asked me how the food was and I told him that I had better ramen and the broth needs to improve he actually got upset, turned around and ignored me.
I thought maybe I was being picky and acting spoiled so I took a friend of mine there for the second time and this time I did not say anything but after one bite my friend went to tell the waiter and told them that this is not RAMEN and it does not taste anything Japanese.
PROS: nothing
CONS: expensive and not authentic

We waited about 15 minutes for a table, but it was worth it! I'd definitely go back.
The service was ok (it's a busy place with few servers), not the best but not too bad, either.
Pros: good ramen!, easy to park
Cons: gets a bit crowded

This place has good ramen -- their soup is very flavorful, and the ramen is tasty. They are however, a bit expensive -- I ordered gyoza there and this tiny plate came out with six little things on it. I basically paid about a dollar per gyoza.
First time I came here the guy I ordered from asked me to repeat my order 3 times-- at 5 minute intervals. That was fun.
