First of all, this is a high end restaurant, they take reservations, and most people go well dressed. I like to go to restaurants with great food but I do not like to dress up, and its nice to have the option to dress just "comfortable". The food is very good and up to what you expect at this price range. The service is good too, although I personally do not like to be asked how everything is while I have my mouth full. It is considered good service to check up on the customer so I guess they are just doing their job.
They always have something new on the menu and often redo their entire menu with new items. All in all, a typical dinner here with no wine and dessert will cost you about $75 per person. If that is in your price range for a special occasion or just because you want to have great food, I can certainly recommend The Farallon to you.
Pros: Good food
Cons: Price

I saw this place on Diners, Drive-ins and Dives and when it was time to go to SF on vacation, this place was a must. We did wait about an hour and the place is very small but it was worth every minute. I think it was the best breakfast I had in years. In fact, it trumped Mama's in Washington Square and that is not easy. Recommend for the undecided to go during the week to avoid the crowds. Don't listen to the putz who said it was so-so below me. People would not be waiting up to an hour if it was just so-so.
Pros: Amazing breakfast
Cons: Not many tables

This place serves up some awesome cocktails as well some of the best dj's above ground. I love the atmosphere and the snug dance floor and although some aren't dancing but it always seems like they would like to be dancing.
This spot is great after work, Friday nights, or after dinner at Sushi Groove.

I met some of my scooter girlfriends here for brunch one morning and it was EXCELLENT. The staff was polite and funny, and I was wild about the tacky BBQ decor. I hail from the Deep South and I was thrilled beyond reason to find they had shrimp-n-grits (a Charleston favorite) on the menu! Of course I ordered it. I ate the whole huge bowl and it was delicious. They also have REAL sweet tea (serve yourself) - none of that bottled corn syrup crap - and big huge cornbread muffins, plus biscuits. The prices are reasonable (shrimp-n-grits just $9.95) and the long, picnic-table seating is roomy. Now Ya'll go on, git to Memphis Minnies!

It takes two buses and over 40 minutes to get to Ton Kiang from where I live, and it's usually followed by at least a 20 minute wait for a table but once inside, any hassle is immediately forgotten.
The dim sum here is certainly not the best in North America - Lai Wah Heen in Toronto currently holds the top spot in my book, but I'm not about to take a 5 hour flight just to get some of their heavenly dumplings.
However, as dim sum restaurants in San Francisco proper go, it's a perfect balance of quality and price. I've never had a bad piece of dim sum there, and the mochi filled with coconut custard is one of my favorite desserts regardless of cuisine.
Standout dishes: snow pea shoots with garlic, rice noodles with char siu, crab claws in seafood mousse, shrimp with snow pea shoots, har gow, mango pudding and the mochi-custard. The Pu Erh tea is good, but not outstanding.
On top of that, four of us ate until we almost burst and it only cost us $20 a head, half of what we would have paid at Yank Sing. Expect a wait, but it's worth it.

Helene really listened to my needs gave suggestions and did exactly what I decided I wanted . She has so much knowledge to offer. Helene included make-up tips. She even added if there was something I did not like I had a week to change it since she wants me to be happy. No one has ever show that much concern. When I called in she told me to drive slowly and I would find a parking space. She has a very conmfortable place. I came after work the wine and popcorn was a nice touch. The price was right.
