There are many used book shops along Valencia ave and each has its unique character that lends to the used book scene (assuming used books can have a scene). Dog Eared gets my vote for those times where there's a specific book you actually want to find and you don't feel like engaging in the adventure of excavating through piles of mysterious tomes. The knowledgeable staff will help you along when necessarily if you're having trouble navigating though alphabetical/topical organizational scheme.

Dog Eared, while not as big as some of the big boys, is one of my favorite used book stores in the city. They have a nice selection for their size, alphabetized and divided into browser-friend sections and the staffers are lovely and very knowlegable about their stock. The store also offers a small selection of new titles, used CDs, alternative press and a decent kids' section. If you're selling, they pay fair prices and take a wide variety of books.

A friend recommended me to this bookstore beacuse she always likes to find a good deal. Dog Eared Books is a great place for values on books. The store itself is loctaed in teh beautiful Mission district on Valencia Street. It is not a very large store, but it is packed full with wonderful books. The salesperson was so helpful that he wasn't smothering and allowed me to choose what I wanted. the store is very well orgaized so things are very easy to find. And they always have great values and sale prices. Very fun place to browse and shop.

This place is right on my block and I love their title of new books. The prices of books are not overpriced and the staff is very polite and helpful. They guided me to a book which I would not have found if it was not for them. The environment is very cozy and is a good place to browse around. They have a mid-size collection of books from kids to adult readings.

I love coming to this bookstore. They have a great selection of hard to find books, and I often spend hours just browsing. Their staff is really helpful too, so if you're looking for something in particular they'll get it for you. Some of the prices are a little high but its not outrageous. They also buy your used books, so if you have some old books you want to get rid off this could be a good place to do it.
