Osento is an institution. It is a tiny little place that used to be someone's house, remodeled to feature two hot showers, one big hot tub, one cold plunge outside, a dry sauna, a wet sauna, and a deck where you can look at the stars. And a quiet room for napping! And a room for massage! Oh, it is a happy place. There's no clothing allowed, which can be scary for people but also really equalizes everyone. There's tons of filtered water and sliced limes on tap. And for a women-only spa, they have a pretty friendly gender policy - they're inclusive of post-op transwomen and of trannyboys too. Also: only $12 to stay there as long as you want! (I think they're open from noon to midnight every day) Cheaper if you buy ten visits at once - then it's more like $7. So great!

Osento is the perfect place to soak and sweat in their saunas, get a massage or lay out on their deck in a private, women's only environment. It is an SF establishment that has offered a sanctuary for women to unwind and detox for decades. Staff is helpful and friendly. Good to go during the weekdays when it's less busy. VERY affordable!

It's easy to walk by this place, never knowing that it is there. It's a great way to keep this small spa one of San Francisco's best-kept secrets.
Osento provides a hot tub, dry and wet saunas (complete w/ a cold plunge), a quiet room, a sun deck, two massage rooms and complimentary limes to go with their triple-filtered water. Although it gets crowded by 8pm, a daytime trip provides a truly quiet respite.
It is surprisingly inexpensive - only $12 pays for a whole day of relaxation. Massages are on a sliding scale starting at $60.
PROS: inexpensive, relaxing, intimate setting
CONS: gets crowded on weekends and evenings

Osento is the perfect escape. Tucked in the middle of the city, in an unassuming Victorian, you could easily walk right by without ever knowing what you had missed. The staff is friendly. The price is reasonable -- $10-$20 sliding scale for entrance. The hot tub is large (although it is an indoor tub). And, the saunas are relaxing, if on the small side. Osento is the spot I go to for relaxation when I can't leave the city -- it helps me get through the times that I can't make it up to Orr, Wilbur, or Harbin.
Pros: inexpensive, women-only
Cons: parking

A special Mission hideaway for women. Soak, steam, shower under the stars, chill out on the deck, be naked just a few feet from Valencia Street. Every SF woman should know about this great de-stresser. Great place to realize that women's bodies come in such a wide range of shapes and sizes, and that all can be beautiful!
