Its not just the 'sauce' that makes this place a Hayes Valley gem... aside from the liquid concoctions the friendly bar staff whip up, the quality cuisine is a treat for the taste buds, especially the unique desserts... must save room for at least one. Stick around after dinner, the swanky back room makes for a one stop evening to either chill out, or cut a little rug. I found it a great space for a private party too.
Pros: great crowd, nice staff, reasonable prices

Sauce is a great new restaurant/bar/destination spot in Hayes Valley. The decor is warm and inviting, the food is exceptional and reasonably-priced. But the atmosphere is what makes Sauce stand out. If you don't know them already, you are almost guaranteed to make three new friends with the owner-operators by the time you leave after your first meal, which may not be too early in the evening since the kitchen is open nice and late.
This place is only going to get more popular as the word gets out, which is fine by me. Because on nights when the back lounge is open, the music is playing, and the cocktails are flowing -- you may just wind up cancelling your other plans and staying right where you are!
Pros: Centrally located, Food, Atmosphere
Cons: , Parking may be tough

I went to Sauce last night with 6 friends - the food was fantastic and the atmosphere is great - dj music is playing in the background and it attracts the hip and beautiful late 20's, 30's, and younger 40's crowd.
The separate lounge in back is very cool w/red velvet on the walls - it's dark w/great music.
I highly recommend Sauce and I plan on becoming a regular :)
Pros: good food, fun atmosphere, great music

If you dine here with your date, start at the bar during the happy hour. If you then share your food at the dining room, you can have 2 drinks each, free appetizers, salad and soup, 2 entres with different side veges, and desert, all for about $40, and that's including tax and tips. Incredible bargain when you consider that all the entres we've tried so far (8 dishes) compare favorably (in quality and quantity) to those offered at more well known French bistros in the neighborhood (Hayes Valley, Upper Market area)
Pros: Inexpensive, Not crowded, authentic bistro food
Cons: small menu

happy hour from 4:30-6:30 weekdays is awesome. for $4 you can get 2 tap beers and a small appetizer, what a deal. other drinks also on special, buy one get one free and every pair comes with the appetizer which changes frequently. last time we had an excellent but small crab cake and a very greasy and average tiny quesadilla slice. regardless, the value is excellent.
the food was also very good, i have tried the sole and the braised spare rib. very reasonable prices for fine dining, $10-15 for soup or salad, entree, desert. $1 extra for small appetizer.
service was awesome. the waiter remembered our names from 3 days ago, our water was filled about 20 times, very friendly etc.
Pros: Happy Hour, Inexpensive
