I wandered in here with a friend almost by mistake and was overwhelmed with how delicious everything was. Steak salad, bacon wrapped meatloaf and doughnuts for dessert! Everything was perfect and I'll definitley go back (after several aerobic workouts!).
Pros: Delicious comfort food that mom could never make.
Cons: Needs more lower cost wine choices.

A friend of mine absolutely loves this place and choose it for her last birthday pre party. We went with a large group and were able to taste almost everything on the menu. My personal favorite, the mushroom fries. they are delish! Also the meatloaf, the pasta and all of the desserts were fabulous. I highly recommend this place, but come with an appetite because you have to try their desserts!
Pros: unique yummy menu

This is the best place I have discovered in a while - it was GREAT! They were on time for our reservation (were even friendly when I called to make it), our waitress was great, the atmosphere was lovely and the food was YUMMY. The portobella fries were delicious; the new potato skins were amazing and easy to convert to veggie status. They made the mac and cheese minus the chicken and it melted in my mouth. YUM!! The veggie struedel was also great, as was the tomato bisque. We barely had room for dessert but of course we had to try something - the ice cream mash was good but I'll try something else next time (it just seemed like the smallest dessert they had and that's all we had room for). Like I said, it seems like my restaurant luck has been off lately, but this place turned it around. Fabulous on every level and I can't wait to go back! Go and enjoy a night here!
Pros: Food, service, atmosphere
Cons: I can't walk here

Chef Ben is amazing. He makes this dessert platter that I have dreamt about and told many a people about since first trying it. I am a dessert guru. I love it, I eat it after every meal. In my 30 years on the planet I have never had a more fun, delicious array of desserts to eat. You get 4 amazing dessert options and each one is very satisfying. In fact I have a friend who has given up dessert for a month (in a bet) and her first dessert experience after a month is going to be at Sauce.
The food is great as well. I love all the comfort food gone grown up. I have never had a bad meal and I have gone back at least 5 times in the last 2 months (and I live down the penninsula). They have the best tomato bisque with cheese truffle sandwiches on the side, yummy crab wontons, amazing homemade fried rice and those are just the appetizers.
I highly recommend Sauce, even if you go just for the dessert. The atmosphere is great, the staff is friendly and quick and the food is amazing.
Pros: Food, Staff, Menu Options
Cons: Parking

I was really looking forward to our dinner before opera. The decor and atmosphere are really nice. The service was prompt. The idea of all of the dishes was interesting but when our food arrived it fell short of all the hype. Everything was bland. Prepared well....but bland.
Pros: Nice simple decor, prompt service, interesting food ideas
Cons: Bland

My friend raved about this place, finally I went and she was right. The food is wonderful and it's a fun place. You have to try the Portabello fries, you won't be disappointed!

Had a great experience - Creative drinks, delicious food. I recommend the Portobello Fries appetizer, Vegetarian Streudel entree, and PB&J pie dessert - all amazing! My boyfriend had the fish and chips which was fresh and delicious. Our server was very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu - offered good recommendations. She forgot one of our cocktails, but with a sincere apology she immediately brought it over. But that's a minor detail. Overall, a great restaurant! I will be back!
Pros: good comfort food, creative, delicious
Cons: small restaurant, few veggie entrees

5 stars for the bar

On the recommendation of Isotope owner James, my wife and I decided to head over to Sauce for a quick cocktail on the way back home after picking up some comics at his shop.
The bar is warm and inviting, and the drinks are both strong and well poured. An "el Diablo" was well made, with a distinct tequila flavor typically missing in most tequila cocktails. My wife's "Pink Pearl Necklace" (gotta love that name) was also quite good.
The cocktail highlight was the negroni - quite possibly the best I have had in the United States. Made with Nr. 209 gin, it was strong, herbal and perfectly balanced in its sweetness.
If you're looking for good cocktails in Hayes Valley, Sauce is highly recommended.

Since my co-workers and I discovered Sauce, we're there at least once a week and our group gets bigger every time! We all agree, we've never tasted anything we didn't absolutely love at Sauce. The only problem is, all the appetizers are so good and the portions so generous, we don't always make it to the main menu! And quality is never sacrificed for quantity; it's obvious how much the chef cares about the food and enjoys feeding everyone. The cocktails are fabulous, with fresh ingredients and creative bartenders. The staff is friendly and never rushes you out so they can pack people inlike so many places do. Sauce is not to be missed, whether you're a local or a tourist. If you want to experience some of the best food and coolest people S.F. has to offer, Sauce is the place to be!
Pros: easy parking, friendly staff, ample portions

Horrible value on food and service. Asian Pear Salad - the pear had no taste because pears aren't in season right now. It should not have been on the menu. Fish & chips - for $18.00 go somewhere else. They give you one 4 inch fillet and chips were soggy. Doughnut holes - this was only redeeming part of meal, but too much sugar made it too sweet. Service - rude and unattentive. They kept the door open even though we requested it be shut because it cold outside.
Cons: host ignored us, waiter ignored us, overpriced, tasteless
