As a fourth generation San Franciscan and a 50 year customer of Sam's, I can say that it is one unique San Francisco experience and brings back the days of old. Fantastic fish dishes - Petrale Sole; great meat - veal chops, sweetbreads, liver outstanding; drinks are short but strong and the waiters are not out to win personality contests. This is San Francisco as it was -- no PC BS here; just a solid menu with old charm atmosphere. To truly get a superb experience, one has to be a "regular". Restaurants and bars like Sam's have to grow on you...and are a dying breed. Expect non-presumptuous service and you will be rewarded. Savor the experience. If you like 'going to the mall" forget Sam's; if you want to see life as it was (and should be) without the liberal pretentiousness, experience Sam's. Bon Appetit. Ask for Christy.

Yes this place is a little tacky, but it is a karaoke bar....Strong drinks and fun times make up for it. I thought the drinks were really reasonably priced, especially for a marina bar. Even if you don't like to sing, it's just a fun atmosphere and the possibility of getting one friend up on stage makes it worth spending a few hours there. They have a TV screen now (not sure if this is new but I never noticed it before) so you can see your friends on stage from anywhere in the bar. Really great for birthday parties and bachelorette parties!

A friend & I recently ate breakfast at this cute little Wharf restaurant & had a really good time. My friend ordered banana pancakes with brown sugar & pecans (which tasted like the center of a good piece of banana bread) & I got strawberry pancakes with fresh strawberries on top. Both pancakes had the fruit baked into them. So yummy! We ended up going again the next day for both breakfast & dinner. The wait staff were very friendly & the prices were pretty good considering the huge amount of food they give you (we would eat breakfast very early & not be hungry again until 3 or 4pm).

We went to this old time Wharf restaurant and had a wonderful time. They had music in the early evening in the bar. We had a great time. The musicians like to banter with the crowd. It created a fun party atmosphere. Food was wonderful. The seafood was really fresh. We had the swordfish and the halibut , absolutely fantastic. We saw racks of ribs going to other tables that looked great too. This place has a newer updated look compared to some of the other places.
We would highly recommend going here. Reasonably priced as well.
Pros: Great location, on the water, Validated parking one block away
Cons: no valet parking

The seafood in this restaurant is great. The fish soup is yummy and healthy. There are various cooking types of crabs. The salty and pepper one is especially good. Very authentic Hong Kong style food.

I love the Fish Bowl, it is by far the best local watering hole in the city...I know that's a bold statement, but they have great music, friendly and attentive bartenders, drinks specials every night, great partons and an atmosphere that guarentees a good time! It can get a little crowded on weekends past 11, but that's because this is a kickass place to be!
Pros: service, jukebox, atmosphere
Cons: parking, can get crowded, one bathroom

There might 10000 other chinese restaurants in that street but we always go back to Ocean! The food is always great (fried octopus, sweet prawns!!) and VERY inexpensive... the service is fast, efficient and NICE eventhough we don't speak chinese!
So if you're in the neighborhood and all the restaurants look the same to you, go to Ocean you won't regret it!
Pros: Great value, Nice Staff, Fast

I am a native San Franciscan and have a true appreciation for the rich history of the city. I grew up hearing about the Fishermen's Grotto, as it is one of the top attractions on the Wharf. I think I went as a kid but hadn't been in years. On Friday, I attended a holiday party at the Fishermen's Grotto and had the BEST time! We started in the bar area and had cocktails and crab cakes (delicious!) There was plenty of space to accommodate our large group of 50. We then had dinner at the far window facing the Golden Gate Bridge and Fishing Harbor. The views are spectacular! Imagine eating a hot bowl of clam chowder while taking in these phenomenal sites (bring your camera!). The owner of the restaurant stopped by, introduced himself and told us a bit about the history of the restaurant and his family. It is rare that the owner of a restaurant will take the time to do this. The waiters were very efficient and made sure that we all had our salmon and steak dishes on time. The food tasted fresh and flavorful and the portions are generous. What more could you ask for? I am going to bring my family here for the holidays. I can't wait to go back!
Pros: View, Service, Food
