I stumbled on Cafe Pescatore while shopping at Cost Plus, what a find! My friends and I dined outside and sipped wine while munching on the best Calamari ever. We stayed for dinner and the staff was happy to oblige. The Cioppino was spicey and delicious.

Food was amazing. It's all cooked to order, so be patient; it's worth every dime and minute. Our waitress was smiley at first and attentive throughout, but she became increasingly bitchy with each progressive question asked. I just wanted to know what the specials were, and my head got chewed off. I was asked to move my chair by a patron (the place is teeny tiny) and the waitress chewed off my butt for moving my seat, but she did ask with a smile if we wanted dessert. Weird. Other than the twilight zone moments with the waitress, I'll be going back again and again.
Pros: food, food, food
Cons: bad, bad service

this steakhouse on the bay has beautiful views of the bay bridge and the san francisco sky line. the big windows on all the walls ensure that diners have something pleasant to look at. the ambiance was definitely leaning towards the romantic although groups can enjoy the same without any "romantic pressures" at the upstairs bar called quiver lounge, where it was loud and crowded but still blessed with the same views. word of warning, it was really dark in the restaurant and i could barely see the menu. but the darkness was necessary to truly enjoy the night views.
the service here was fantastic -- at least after waiting 20-30 minutes even though you had a reservation. that being said, the staff was apologetic. once we were seated (at a perfect corner location with perfect views no matter which seat you take at the table), we were attended by an attentive wait staff who gave honest recommendations.
i started off with the squid salad with chilies, beans and tomato confit. the ingredients tasted fresh and crunchy and the squid was tasty.
for my entree, i had the pork porterhouse with coffee bean sauce. i thought the sauce was too rich but that the pork was definitely yummylicious. there was a nice fat cap, which in the dark, could surprise you. but, the meat next to the fat cap was rich and delicious.
i tried my friend's pork belly risotto. the pork belly was definitely very fatty but the crunchiness was perfect. the server warned us about the fat cap though so that was fully disclosed.
for the sides, we tried the truffled whipped potatoes (rich and creamy), sauteed spinach (great), grilled garlic brocollini (great) and mac and cheese (crunchy on top, creamy below).
we also tasted a medley of dessert - a chocolate cookie, an oatmeal cookie, i think a cinnamon cookie and a peanut butter fudge, which was so sinfully good.
this place was great.

This is by far one of my favorite restaurants in San Francisco! The seafood is fabulous and the atmosphere is fantastic. Everytime I have been here it has been very crowded and we had to wait for a table. It was well worth the wait!

After arriving in San Francisco for the first time I took the subway to 16th and Mission and went straight to this place for dinner. Very nice atmosphere and friendly staff made me feel welcome immediately. I chose the Cioppino which was one of the nights specials and couldn't have been happier with the food or the price (worth every penny). The cioppino was perfect and possibly the best I ever had (don't tell my wife). I highly recommend this place to anyone who appreciates good (sea)food in an honest welcoming atmosphere.
Pros: Service, Food, Atmosphere
Cons: I live on the east coast :(

This place has possibly the best happy hour I've been to in San Francisco. This place is classy yet trendy and since the ownership has recently changed hands (it's now actually called Louie's Bar and Grill), this place has improved drastically. Faster, friendlier service with a more upbeat atmosphere. A must try for Happy Hour!!
Pros: great food, great prices, fun atmosphere
Cons: hard to find

Three of us dined - the pork was excellent. The mahi mahi was very nicely grilled, light and flaky, and the soft shell crab was also good. We enjoyed dessert which was probably the best - a nice blueberry tart of sorts. The service was very good and the food very good, but if you want ambiance and value, you really would be better suited elsewhere. We found that there was much good food in the area, but value was harder to find.
Pros: good food
Cons: pricey
