I'm going to try the fish and chips next time.
Service was great, food was excellent, and prices were reasonable.

Another great stop at Pier 39, Pier Market Seafood Restaurant offers a superb selection of seafood entrees. Their clam chowder is award-winning! It's always busy though, so plan accordingly.

2000 words would just scratch the surface for describing this jewel! It has taken over 1st place in our San Francisco dining list for future visits. Why you ask? Will it suffice to say the entire experience with this establishment made it a "perfect event"; reservations delivered a water view table, service was impeccable with no sense of urgency, cocktails were expertly mastered, an appetizer of calamari was exquisite with the spicy aioli, entrees of cioppino (the best my husband has ever had he says) & grilled scallop/shrimp were decidedly delectable, sides of crab mashed potatoes & grilled asparagus were perfect accompaniments, and the defining dessert of sublime chocolate mousse cake delivered to us gratis celebrating our 39th anniversary. Could we ask for more? We think not & now you know why this special place has risen to the top of our "exclusive" dining list. We travel the world searching out such experiences & we have had one here!
Pros: everything, service especially & ambiance to spare, food flavors abound
Cons: none found

This food is really great. I was told that John goes in very early in the morning and makes many of his menu items from scratch. The Eggs Benedict is always delicious and care is taken to make sure the eggs are poached to perfection. It's a great place to visit before or after the zoo, but my favorite thing to do is park near the beach to the north of the restaurant and walk along the multi-use path to John's. Then I'm nice and hungry for the delicious and filling food there. I can feel some "old school" San Francisco magic there, and the wait staff are friendly, casual and interesting. Some friends and I are headed there today, I can't wait!
Pros: Excellent "diner" style food, an air of history, great beach/zoo location, great staff
Cons: parking not so good (park further and walk!) doesn't have that "scrubbed down" look

I have been to this restaurant probably close to a dozen times and have been impressed each and every time. It was great when my dad's company had a anniversary dinner there with a large group and was even better going there with my girlfriend. The enironment is very cozy but be warned it can be a little drafty by the window. What I like the most about this place is the menu size, variety and price. It can be good for inexpensive dinners with great food startin at 15. They also have exquisite food in the mid 30's. What I personally recommend is the crab bruschetta for an appetizer, it is the best I have had anywhere. The ciopinno is also better than the other places on the wharf that I have eaten at.

Before coming here I had read some bad reviews of the restaurant, especially ones attacking the character of the restaurant more than the food. I'm glad we decided to make our own conclusions and have dinner here. I was so pleasantly surprised. Three of us split 5 dishes and all were soooo good. We had the civeche, calamari, fish tacos, some deep friend pickles, and fries. The ceviche was okay, but I think thats more because I'm peruvian so I have high standards for my ceviche. The deep friend pickles [forgot name] and calamari was AMAZING!!! we didn't have desert because we decided to go to the bakery next door for treats. Our server was so nice and adorable, I wanted to pinch her cheeks! The place is small, but why let the trendy atmosphere and close quarters ruin an exciting and delicious meal?

My work frequently brings me to San Francisco from LA. Every trip, I make time to meet friends at Tarantino's. They have the best chowder I've ever had (I crave it when I'm away!), fresh crab, the most perfect plate of calamari, and my all-time favorite cioppino. The service is quick and the views are phenomenal. You cannot go wrong on the wharf as long as you're at Tarantino's.
