Why go anywhere else but Ameoba to buy music? Because Aquarius has those insightful blurbs that they attach to a lot of the albums in the store. These guys know what they're talking about (not that I agree all the time – you are sooo totally wrong about Kid A - but still, mad respect). Also, there's obscure shit here you won't anywhere else, like just try to find a collection of 70's Indonesian field recordings as extensive anywhere else. One question though: what's with the I am Spoonbender obsession?

Sign up for their online Bi-Weekly updates and be edified and entertained by your friendly neighborhood record shop with their the varied and deep love of all kinds of music. I literally can't count the number of times I've walked out with something that I'd never heard of but have grown to love enormously.

Aquarius Records is a good place to check out if you want to find underground or hard to find music. They specialize in the non-mainstream area, so don't go there if you're looking for Top 100 CDs. They're into independent and local acts too. It's a cool place to check out, but I haven't been there in a while. Prices are reasonable.

Aquarius is one of the few record stores known internationally. Even though everyone in SF goes to Amoeba (and really, why shouldn't you), Aquarius manages to survive by handpicking only the best, rarest, and weirdest music around. Definitely worth a special trip, you can check out all the new stuff in their listening station. It's a great place to expand your musical repetiore.
