Before I start, I'd like to say on my behalf that I'm not particularly proud of how this ends and I'm NOT an easily angered person(I've NEVER done this before) After a 650 mi.,12 hr. drive from Portland OR. the day before to see a concert , I thought I'd stay for the weekend, site see and try a few local brews since I don't get to visit there much anymore(my hometown is 2 hrs away) Coming from the 21st Amendment, This is a great, friendly place, with great brews and sweet service. After a little site seeing on the way over to the beach I drove past this place and remembered their website, turned around and parked. I walked in, went upstairs and sat down. The place was busy. Waiting over 15min.,I tried to get the attention of one of the servers to no avail, so not really being in MUCH of a hurry, text friends and a friend called. A waiter came over " do you know what you want" I haven't received a menu yet, "so can I get you something to drink" yeah, an IPA. 15min. later a beer and menu arrive,I realize their busy BUT, this is ridiculous.10min later "are you ready to order" No, he leaves never to be seen again. 10min, another server comes over"are you ready" YES,I was getting hungry and didn't think I would get another chance, I've been here 1 1/2hrs(app),and only 1beer. 20min, finally food and beer arrive, It's great. Tried to get the check, she's no where to be found, I had to ask another to get it, this is beyond ridiculous now I'm being ignored and I'm finally beginning to get p###sed. Put my card w/the check and again nothing. Looked at my watch, Almost 2 1/2 hrs passed and now I have to take a pi## so I pull my card from the folder and walk downstairs, finish up, I walk out of the restroom and out the front door never to be seen there again. This establishments owners and managers really need to do something about the servers and their attitudes.

Came on a whim for Mother's Day w/o reservations and were able to get a table near the bar. The food is better than in the past and the menu has changed. The French toast was quite good with even better potatoes and 2 lean sausages. The Monte Cristo wasn't what I expected, with an over-easy egg, black forest ham and cheese between 2 toasted slices of Artisan bread which came with a good fruit salad. They were very busy for the day but service was nice and the staff checked on us several times. Planning to visit again in a month, this time with reservations so we can get a table with the ocean view!
Pros: Great view, parking lot, nice service, big groups can dine in the rear restaurant
Cons: Noisy

Save yourself the waste of time & DO NOT visit. I made my 1st trip to the restaurant after finding their webpage online. When I got there I sat up stairs where the atmosphere was cozy & the service was horrible! I waited for 10-15 minutes for service ordered a beer & was never served again. After sitting there with my empty glass for over 20 minutes I left. I went home & looked them up online again where I discovered there is a link for a give away that doesn't work so emailed the restaurant about the non existent service & deceptive link. I never heard back from anyone more than a month ago. After telling my friend about the situation he said lets try again but we will visit the lower bar. After sitting at the bar for over 20 minutes the bar keep had made only 2 drinks & kept telling us she'd be right with us. We left without ever getting service. As of writing this I just tried their give away a link again & it still doesn't work. There are so many better places to visit!
Pros: Great Location
Cons: HORRIBLE service OVERPRICED food

My husband and I had a very late lunch/early dinner at the Park Chalet on a Friday night in early May which we very much enjoyed. http://beachchalet.com/aboutus/index.php?page=parkchalet We arrived around 4:00 p.m. and found the atmosphere relaxed and the service attentive and friendly. The restaurant is located on the Great Highway at the entrance to Golden Gate Park (next to the windmill) and behind the Visitor Center. You will pass through the Center's wonderful display of SF themed WPA walls murals on your way to the Park Chalet entrance. http://www.lightight.com/GGP/mem_images/Mem1P01.html
While seating can be had in or out of doors, we sat inside and our table looked out onto a green garden (park) planted with golden California poppies and studded with bright, yellow Adirondack chairs. I ordered the fish & chips which I usually don't order, but found excellent - very lite. My husband ordered the linguine and mussels and was very happy with it, saying that it was the best shell fish he ever had - very lite - not oily or fishy. We also ordered the root beer (something else I don't usually order) which is a house specialty - this being a brewery. The prices were reasonable and the experience was relaxing and very pleasant.
After dinner we took a walk through Golden Gate Park, visited the newly refurbished De Young Museum, http://www.thinker.org/deyoung attended a free serendipitous sitar concert at the museum, took the elevator to the 9th floor for a spectacular 360 degree view of the city, took a long leisurely stroll back through the park and emerged 3 hours later at the Park Chalet Restaurant and the Visitor Center.
What a nice time! How can you have a better experience?

My friend and I went for a Brunch date on Sat 5/5. We received a 2 person table with a window view to die for. This was my first time and his 2nd time. We both agreed that our server was geniuely pleasant and knowledgable. The FOOD was so good!!!!! I had the famous Dungeness Crab Eggs Benedict and he had Steak & Eggs. Great location on a warm or cold day. I would HIGHLY recommend this restaurant. PS - Make sure you check out the murals on the street level - Have the guide give you a tour :-)
Pros: Location, free parking and the food
Cons: NONE

My partner and I live in the Richmond and we love to go out to The Beach & Park Chalet for lunch and/or dinner at least once a month. I read all of these reviews that say tourist this and slow service that, but we've had nothing but positive experiences at both restaurants. Sure, we've waited for a beer and our entrees at 1:00 p.m. on a Sunday, but there was a HUGE crowd both indoors and out and we knew what we were getting into! If you can't handle the heat, then stay out off the beach and go somewhere else! When they're busy, they're BUSY!!
I had the best ribeye steak and tuna tartare appetizer recently in The Beach Chalet! It was amazing. We also went out for a Taco Tuesday, which is extremely crowded and the wait seems like forever, but we had a couple of margaritas and sat on the Lawn and it was very nice.
I think both places are great for families, tourist and locals! Try it! You'll like it!!
Pros: Views and food
Cons: bathrooms on lower level in Visitor's Center

This place has the worst service and the food is average and the price is too high. The only thing i liked was the view. It is a shame the food and service is so terrible. It is over crowed and noisy the staff is rude and you have to wait forever for food and the bill. It was my birthday and if it wasn't for my whole family being there I would of complained to management.
Pros: view, parking
Cons: sevice, food, drinks

The only reason this restaurant succeeds is its perfect location. Go to Beach Chalet for beer and bar food ... enjoy the view of Ocean Beach. I don't recommend sitting for dinner. The menu is uninspired and the food is mediocre at best. Our party ordered the garlic fries (fine), fish and chips (mediocre), steak (sent it back to the kitchen twice), very expensive salads (worst Caesar I've eaten in SF and at this price - $15 w/ chicken - it should be fresh and tasty). The wine selection was OK and their beer selection isn't bad. Frankly, if you're looking for this view with your out-of-town visitors, go for brunch.
Pros: View
Cons: Food, Price
