Very good food 4/13/2006

I try to go at lunch when it's not as crowded. Dinner can be a bit hectic. The roti's great. So is the chap chae. They've always been consistently good. If you don't feel like paying though (their prices are a tad high), just buy the cookbook from them and make the food yourself =) more

Not so great Singaporean 3/17/2006

I've been to Malaysia and Singapore many times and I'm always craving the food when I'm not in Southeast Asia. Unfortunately, I've never found a restaurant that serves up food remotely close to the real thing. Straits Cafe was a huge disappointment to me- roti prata was not very tasty, char kueh teow noodles were unimpressive (how do you mess this up?), and fish was too salty. Overpriced as well. more

totally overrated restaurant. people talk about how great this place is and i've tried three straits cafe..sf, burlingame and san jose. mediocre at best. i honestly don't know why people rave about this place. the food is not authentic at the least and it's pricey. not trying anymore straits again. more

Great Singaporean Food in the Richmond 8/19/2005

Great food and cocktails at Straits Cafe. Every dish we've tried has been great. Make sure to ask if something is spicy. Wonderful service. The cocktails are potent. Good for a first day or good with groups. They take reservations. Parking on Geary is pretty easy. The service is friendly and attentive. This place is definitely worth a try. more
