While this place is definitely always crowded and the food wasn't bad...it wasn't good either. My veggie sandwich was limp, falling apart, and no better in any way than a sandwich I'd make. The prices are semi reasonable and I hear the coffee is supposed to be really good. The service is pretty fast which is a plus but not too friendly. They don't really offer much, and the desserts looked dry and kind of gross. With all the interesting places to eat in the area, I'd pass on this one.

I just have to respond to the review titled "Faboo." The reviewer mentions the personable owner and the dogs. Actually, the owner allows her own dog in the cafe but insists that everyone else's dogs remain tied up outside. And, the owner is anything but personable. She's a snob and rude, but the place is ok when she's not around. Plus, the food is way overpriced and not that great. It's a neighborhood hangout, that's all.
Pros: nice location, sunny
Cons: rude owner, $$ average food, no outlets for laptop

Maybe I'm a sucker for a good sandwich, but I love Dolores Park Cafe (for the food). I would go there a lot more often if I could sit down and be served my meal as opposed to standing in line to order it and then waiting to be called to get up and fetch it. The prices imply full service dining but the food is really good, one of the best casual lunch spots.
Pros: Food, location
Cons: parking, set-up, expensive

One of my favorite cafes ever- for the food, GREAT SERVICE, wonderful personable owner, and great mixed lesbian/straight crowd (plus their dogs). Excellent menu with the best smoothies in the city, healthy wonderful sandwiches & side dishes, and fun music nights. Absolutely brilliant monthly art shows on the walls! You really can't get any better. Regarding the reviewer who didn't like their service, I've always found the staff to be warm & welcoming, probably because I'm not giving them bad attitude in the first place! ;) Great stop for food before/after Dolores Park dogwalking, sunbathing or any of the numerous events held in the park. I can't wait to move back across town to be able to drop by on a walk again! After 17 years in SF, I can truly say this is the one of the best-ever all-round, long-lasting cafe joints- it deserves your patronage! :) :) :)
Pros: food, art exhibits, clientele (+dogs!)
Cons: acoustics (noisy), nice if open later

Stopping in to Dolores Park Cafe for my soy chai is a ritual I look forward to everyday. They make their own chai daily which is amazing since most cafe's buy it by the gallon jug. Their food is fresh and delicious and a good value considering organic meats and produce costs much more in the market place. I love the art shows that change every month and music nights on Friday's are always a treat.
Pros: healthy food, exotic teas, yummy fruit smoothies
Cons: parking challenging

It's location is supreme- people and dog watching doesn't get any better than on the corner of Dolores and 18th. However, the people who work there are consistently aggrevating in a "cooler-than-thou" sort of way and the food is overpriced. I guess another fun aspect of people watching is that you can sit at the bar and watch a good portion of the other patrons be annoyed by the service too.

I recently moved away from San Francisco and my greatest sorrow was losing the Café which I enjoyed morning, noon and night. My days began with the always smiling, familiar staff who promptly served my latte. In the afternoon I grabbed a corner bar stool to enjoy my favorite seitan sandwich with chipotle aioli (which I haven't found anywhere else in the city), a mango smoothie and the sunshine streaming through the vast windows. And each evening my dog would relish the non stop attention from departing customers while she waited for me to get a decaf coffee before we ventured across the street to Dolores Park. Dolores Park Café has existed on 18th Street longer than any of the establishments you featured and is largely responsible for making 18th Street an appealing place for other businesses. I LOVE Dolores Park Café. It is my home away from home
Pros: Great Food, Great Staff, Great Atmosphere
