Taraval Okazu Ya is not "kooky," but it's good Japanese food AND I don't feel self-conscious about taking my two young kids there. The owners and staff are really nice, and I just manage the meal so that there's always something for the kids to do or eat. When they get restless by the end, I have the waiter bring ice cream. Be sure to order the creamy roll. Also try the snake roll--it's the only maki I've ever had that has cilantro in it!

Wow, when this place opened, I thought I died and went to heaven. The grilled chilean sea bass over a bed of vegetables is to die for and their selection of sushi and hand roll menus are extremely creative and extensive. But beware, you may spend an arm and a leg on the sushi as their specialty menu doesn't list the prices. Also go there early, especially on the weekends as they have a wait time of about 30-45 minutes for a table. All in all, I still love this place.
