Every time I visit San Francisco, I come here. Adding to the comments of others, I would point out that Crossroads is a popular place for people to work on their laptops and meet to discuss business ventures. My mother loves the garden, and frequently mentions it as a fond memory of the City. These days, I stop there for snacks before going sailing from South Beach Harbor. They have a great high tea with a wide range of teas, pastries and sandwiches. They also have superb toasted sandwiches. My favourites are BLT and avacado, and meatloaf and marmalade. The seared Ahi salad and cheese platter with honey roasted pecans are also excellent.

This is the place to meet someone for coffee or just go by yourself to have some down time. They have a nice little bookstore and magazine rack -- as well as plenty of free magazines for perusal. It is an excellent coffee house but one of the absolute best sandwiches is the tuna melt - which can sometimes be smelt all the way from second street. The back garden is full of birds that like to bathe in the bird pool on hot days. A very special reclusive place.

You’d never know that you are three minutes walk from Delancey. Crossroads Cafe seats about 24 inside and even fewer outside under the shade of an ancient vine. Maybe that’s why the cooking gives the impression it’s for you alone – certainly, it couldn’t be fresher. This is likely to become one of those restaurants which has to be patronised on every visit to SF - we haven’t yet worked our way through the menu and it’s all just too tempting. It was good enough that we felt obliged to return within 24 hours, just to make sure our judgement was accurate… Antipasti set the scene for the meal to follow. Sendies were wonderful and deserts were impecable!

Crossroads is an upscale cafe with a selection of books, cards and magazines for purchase. It is an ideal place to read or chat, either on a couch indoors or at one of the outdoor tables in a beautiful little garden. They serve a range of foods from plain breakfast items to sandwiches, fantastic soups and seared ahi tuna on a scrumptious green salad. The food is upscale both in quality and in prices, but it is really good. You are also right on the Embarcadero, close to the MUNI, ballpark and downtown, so it's a convenient stopover spot on your way to other places. And one more added benefit: the cafe is part of the Delancey Street Foundation complex, a non-profit that functions as a halfway house and provides its residents with employment opportunities in the few businesses it runs, such as this one. (They are all nice businesses too, a knick-knack store, a florist, a restaurant...) So you can feel good about paying a little extra for your lunch.
