We so enjoy eating at Bistro Aix. My latest pet peeve about SF restaurants is the inconsistency in preparing the basics, but this is never a problem here. Our favorites are the hamburgers, roast chicken, and thin crust pizza. We live in the neighborhood and Steve always makes us feel welcome, even when the place is mobbed. It can be crowded and the chairs on the patio are not that comfortable, but I always leave smiling (in part because the prices are so reasonable).

We called up on a Saturday morning hoping for a table for 8 people on the patio between 7-9pm that night. Left a message on the answering service and received a call back a few hours later- able to book a table for 9pm. Of course, we were late for dinner, and they'd given our table away, but we didn't wait long before another table opened up on the patio. Most people at our table ate the ahi and seemed rather jazzed about it. I had the beet salad and the spaghetti- which was actually quite delicious. I'm vegetarian, so always ask the server for their advice, and was really surprised at how good the spaghetti was. I'm not normally a spaghetti kinda gal, but it really rocked. The service was good, the atmosphere was awesome. The wine list needs to diversify a bit- seemed to only have low-end & high-end wines with very little in between. Besides the disappointing wine list, the restrooms were also fairly filthy. Other than that, it was brilliant!
Pros: garden patio
Cons: limited wine list, no online reservation, dirty bathroom

stumbled upon this place while visiting the city. great food and very resonalbe prices. we had steak and wine and the bill was not out of this world. there were 5 of us in the party and we sat in the back garden. it was chilly but the heat lamps helped. i would go back again and i don't even live in SF. compared to places i have eaten in Seattle and LA, this place was a good deal. i love saving a buck or two!

The French fare at Bistro Aix is consistently good, and an even better deal. You can’t go wrong with anything on the menu, but the calamari appetizer, the top sirloin burger, and the apple pie are all notable choices. A heated back patio adds some space to an otherwise very intimate restaurant. The surrounding neighborhood is perfect for an after-dinner stroll.

We had a party this past weekend of 30 people in the upstairs room. It was GREAT - a huge success for a 40th b-day! Everyone raved about the food & the service. I would highly recommend this spot for dinner anytime, but especially for a group function. The private room upstairs had plenty of room for 30, its own bar and restroom/coat closet. The restaurant gives excellent choices for group functions, and printed up custom menus for the event. The staff was very professional and attentive. The food (we chose choices of a pasta, chicken and lamb main entrees) was outstanding. Great value, too. Very impressed with this place - will certainly go back.
Pros: Private party set up, Food, Service

They have a nice wine selection including some great French wines as well as an excellent selection of California wines from Napa.

I took a client to dinner at the Bistro Aix and we had an amazing experience. The food was excellent and well presented. The portions were quite small and the prices were not, but quality rarely comes at a cheap price. There were a number of reasonably priced wine selections. The wait staff was very attentive but a bit obtrusive at times. Overall, however, I very much enjoyed the experience and can't wait to return.

Bistro Aix used to be a great bar, and one very handily placed right by the vaporetto stop where you catch the boats for the islands. With a view across to the serene street, you could have a glass of wine from a huge range of local varieties, all in top condition, and choose either a delicious panino or something gooey from the pasticceria counter.
You can still do that, but there's a new option too - a large room behind the main bar area has been opened up as a full restaurant. We discovered this on the way back from lunch on Murano so haven't yet tasted the food - a full review will follow in due course - but the menu is very tempting and quite out of the ordinary for Venice.
Dozens of different ways with beef, duck and - wait for it - reindeer; interesting vegetarian ideas, some with cheese (crespelle al radicchio e Montasio), and creative pizzas. Dolci look great too, and there's a list of over 100 wines, mostly local and mostly expensive because rare.
