My good friend introduced me to Burma Superstar a couple of years ago. It was great then and it is still great today. I hate to wait in line for a restaurant...especially in this city (where it is not necessary), but Burma is one of the places that is probably worth waiting for. They were smart enough to buy the cafe across the street so that you can wait over there and have a cup of jo while you wait. :) As many have already said, the Samusa soup and Green Tea Leaf Salad are amazing. I could eat that salad every day. I love just about anything I eat there. The curried shrimp is great as well. If you have not been, be sure to get over there at some point. You may want to cab it as parking on Clement is about as much fun as pulling teeth.

A 20-minute wait in pouring rain was definitely worth it to eat at this place. The staff was genuinely friendly and kept apologizing for our wait, even though it really wasn't in their control. Once we sat down, we ordered a pitcher of the Burmese cooler, chilled beer with ginger and lemon flavor. It was the perfect drink to go with the spicy and flavorful dishes that we ordered including the samosa soup (definitely recommended), fried rice, chili curry eggplant, and other tasty dishes of which I forget their names (lamb, chicken). The point is, it was all excellent and I would definitely go back.
Pros: great ethnic food
Cons: the wait to get in

We always come here with a group and order a bunch of different entrees for family style dining so we can try as much as we can. All of the food we've tried is incredible and has interesting flavors. They also have really unusual tasty drinks on the menu. The place is small and we've always had to wait for a table but I highly recommend it - go with friends so you can try more!

My fiance and I got into the habit of walking in the streets of SF and crashing a crowded restaurant with a long waiting line. This way we got to try Burma superstar. It was totally worth the wait of 30 minutes.
The food is a mix of Chinese and Indian and one of the rice side order was so persian with the raisins and onion cooked with it.
It's a small place but cozy.If you want to try Burmese food you should definitely try this amazing restaurant.I added it to my fav list :)
Pros: Good food,a great place to introduce ppl to Burmese food
Cons: Long wait, don't take reservation, too tight.

I read the reviews, I went, I was disappointed. The food and service were fine, but it wasn't TO DIE FOR, as some reviewers stated. I had the tea leaf salad, samusa soup, and lamb curry. Maybe some reviewers have a more sophisticated palate than I do (or are perhaps less accustomed to asian spices). Stop by if you're hungry, but don't waste your time waiting for an hour; there are plenty of great restaurants few doors down and across the street.

We had a terrible time with service. They made mistakes and then were rude and did not fix. Food is good, but not worth being treated so badly. Other places can good decent food and treat you well.

Is it inappropriate to call this place my crackhouse? After the first time I went I was hooked for life. As a self-professed foodie, Burma Superstar reigns among my top restaurants in the city for its delicious and unique dishes that perfectly blend the right amount of familiar and unfamiliar flavors. A pleasant surprise awaits you on every "*-indicated Burmese dish". My favorites include the highly-touted tea-leaf salad, samusa soup (devoured with platha), and the succulent and tender pork curry eaten w/ the oh-so-scrumptious coconut rice. And contrary to many reviews posted here, the service is excellent. As a matter of fact, the waiter was instrumental during my first visit to Burma Superstar---he is the one that recommended all the dishes that have kept me as a faithful and vocal advocate of the restaurant. Run (don't walk) to this Richmond District gem for an extraordinary experience for your tastebuds.
Pros: FOOD, Knowledgable staff
Cons: No reservations

Went to this place last night with a friend who is a regular. She told me nothing about it, but just started secretly ordering food of the menu. Every single thing was TO DIE FOR. Tea leaf salad was my fave, but other highlights were the Catfish Chowder (Moh Hinga), Beef Kebat, Coconut Rice and the Burmese Samusas (no, not samOsas, samUsas...similar, but still oh so delish). The ginger beer was nice, as well, but I also had the Lychee Julep (more like a mojito with lychee in it for a nice sweet aroma) and tasted the Mango Tango.
Go and go early since the don't take reservations and I heard it gets insane there.
And, if you still have room left, they have nice desserts, as well. Mmmm...coconut lovers dream.
Pros: Everything, no seriously, TEA LEAF salad
Cons: No reservations

The best time to go is NOT on a weekend night. That said, the food is excellent. Tea leaf salad, green beans, walnut prawns, poodi - all absolutely great! Our group of friends have been going to this restaurant for many years. We've had good nights and bad nights there but we always go back and we always let the waitstaff know if there is a problem. They can't fix what they don't know and it is so busy in there some nights that they don't see everything.
For the wait times, we tend to show up, put down a name and a mobile number and head to one of the local pubs or coffee houses until it is time to return. Seems to work out for us!
I recommend going when it is not so busy so that you can get a feel for the food and develop a list of your favorites. The wait staff is generally very helpful in recommendations and the number of dishes to share between a group.
Pros: flavors, selection, drinks
Cons: wait time, parking
