I've eaten here twice, and really loved it both times. The atmosphere is quiet, dimly lit, and a bit confined spatially, but the food is excellent. I still remember a pasta dish I had several years ago. It was quite simple, but the sauce had a really great flavor and mouth feel. I think it was due to some really high quality olive oil.

A very dear friend took me to Quince for my birthday last month. My menu had a personalized birthday greeting printed on top.... the place was wonderful. Plush seating, beautifully decorated. Everything was top of the top, but not over the top. We ordered scallops, a lobster salad, artichoke pasta, duck and halibut. The preparations made us re-think everything we thought we knew about pasta, fowl and fish. The pasta was indescribably sumptuous: light, tender, exquisite. Everything was superb. (including a wonderful wine list and exceptional desserts) Midway through the pasta dish, I spilled my water. Three servers quietly, quickly and expertly removed most everything, patted the table dry, and returned everything to its place within seconds. It was a dance that had to be seen to be believed. It was as though this were part of the ritual of the meal. After a fabulous dinner, and a delightful evening, we were pleasantly surprised by the tab. Other places in the city are f

Went to the new Quince on Monday night. Waited almost 30 minutes past the reservation to be seated - not what you would expect from this caliber restaurant. Additionally, there was little to no attempt to make up for the fact that we were so delayed in our seating.
The space is very pleasant. Frankly, I think it is an upgrade from the old Myth space and conveys the Quince brand. Service was an A-, food was a B+. Highlights of the meal were the Sweetbreads appetizer which is the best I've had. The pasta dish (pappardelle with suckling pig) was not as good as I remembered from the old place and the venison main course was just ok. Nice presentation on desert and the cheese tray was pretty good but not as good as Danko or The Ritz DR. Overall, I think Quince is still a top 10 restaurant in SF but needs to work out the kinks - I will go back in 6 months and check it out.
Pros: Nice atmosphere/setting
Cons: Had to wait 30 mins past reservation to get seated

Great place! The food was very fresh and delicious. The server we had was aware and knowledgeable. Parking can be tough, but totally worth it!

Great spot for dinner - Service is outstanding. No recession at Quince, business as usual.
Why does my review need to be one hundred characters?
Pros: Service
Cons: Spendy

In general the tastes were good, sometimes creative, but occasionally offbeat (snails with mint - bad!). The duck and the coconut dessert were run of the mill, and portions of everything were small; dollars per ounce would really be high here. The service that others commend we found intrusive, people always hovering, trying to take dishes away before you're through (get more seatings that way), and the continual back and forth parade of staff was distracting and a little annoying. Nice people yes, but much, much too "present." Our first visit, with high expectations, and rather let down. Not likely to return.
Pros: Charming decor, some unusual tastes
Cons: fussy service, small portions, felt rushed

When you dine at a restaurant of this supposed calabre you expect service. You won't get it here. The wait staff is horrible, they barely even speak to you. The somalier spoke to us briefly but we were buy 2 $250 bottles of wine. The food was OK but not even 3 stars. Mostly it was the horrible service that was a major turn off. With so many incredible restaurants in SF I suggest you skip Quince and go to an old stand by like Jardinere or Jaunty at Jacks. I wish it was better but not worth what you are charged.,

My partner and I were visiting from out of town. I am from the bay area and wanted to take her to a romantic dinner in this lovely city. However, the minute we stepped in the door we were treated poorly. We had made reservations a month in advance and had received a confirmation/reminder from Quince two days before. When we arrived at our scheduled time, we were told we did not have reservations and were made to feel that we were intruding. We told the hostess about the confirmation call and she rudely asked, "Well, who called you then?" Being that it was already late in the evening and we were in town for only one night, we were forced to wait in hopes of eventually getting a table. As we waited for twenty five minutes, other parties were seated, given drinks during their waiting time and treated in a welcoming friendly manner. Additionally, there was an empty two seater table next to where we were forced to wait the entire time. Only when we were able to provide an actual voicemail from their reservationist, were they finally accomodating, seating us at the empty table by the door. Their once very rude hostess became apologetic and brought us a small complimentary glass of wine, however the evening was already tainted. The food was incredibly average and they neglected to let us finish our bottle of wine during our meal. Suffice it to say, San Francisco has many great restaurants, but Quince is not one of them.
