This place is simply badass. It is a hole in the wall that serves the greatest sushi. The staff is friendly. With an eclectic interior it seems as if you are the only one who knows this hidden jewel. And they are also on the NWA dine and fly list. So you get FF miles to boot!
Pros: great food
Cons: don't think they have AC and it was oddly warm for a bit when I was in SF

Prices were a bit on the high end. A caterpillar roll was $20 bucks! We had some of their specials which were extremely fresh. Make sure you don't get the 2 person table next to the piano since that's the only path to the restrooms and the tables in the back of the place, way too much foot traffic. The atmosphere is pretty cool and the late hours are great. It's a bit of a trek up the hill if you're heading there from Market St on foot.

Where to start? My mother who has been to Japan numerous times discovered this place. I think she was initially attracted by the Noren hanging outside the door. We decended the stairs on Taylor street and proceeded to have all previous sushi experiences eclipsed. Ryoko's is the new gold standard...or should I say "toro" standard? As you begin to show up more than once, they remember your name, your favorite forms of sushi and as I just read in another review, a willingness to create food artistry if you let them. Reiko suggested that I try the clam miso soup after I simply ordered the miso soup. I'll never go back to regular miso soup there again. You get what you pay for. Fresh fish, healthy food, excellent service and attitude. I'm torn between trying to keep it a secret and telling the world. Do yourself a favor...
Pros: Great downtown location, late night hours, fabulous staff
Cons: Parking

My fiance and I met his coworker at Ryoko last week. It was a cute little hole-in-the-wall place with good sushi. I enjoyed dinner and the staff was very nice. The only con is that it's in a basement between Union Square and a not-so-nice area, so bring a friend, as you might have to park far away (BART is nearby, as well).
Pros: good sushi, friendly staff
Cons: basement atmosphere, difficulty parking

Fresh sushi, made by the best sushi chefs in the bay. This is where the other sushi chefs in the city come to eat after they close. Fun, loud, dark, crowd of all ages. If you don't like loud, funky music, you can pass. The fish is very fresh, and the amount of rice used in their nigiri and rolls is perfect . Many of the other bay area sushi restaurants overpack the pieces with too much rice and not enough fish. No complaints - simply delicious fish.
Pros: Fish Quality, Sushi Quality & Taste, Fun Atmosphere
Cons: Loud Music, Dark Room

This is a great undiscovered restaurant. It's a little eclectic in it's decor and atmosphere, but the staff are great and very friendly and the food is consistently great. There is a lot of pretense associated with many of the sushi restaurants in SF. This place probably wont cut it with the Marina crowd, but most of the rest of the population will love it!
Pros: Great Food, Service and Price
Cons: Parking

Incredible food, friendly staff, and hip atmosphere make this a must visit sushi bar in the city. Parking is a bit of a hassle and there's no real waiting area (the steps are sometimes full), but the food is worth the wait (they accept reservations too). Very very fresh sushi and free edimame while you relax at your table. Service is excellent and the wide selection of rolls will keep you coming back for more!
Pros: Food & Service

This is a great affordable sushi place and so much more. Great for dinner before going out on the town. Loved the fried tuna rolls, caterpiller, albacore sushi. Everything's fresh. Full bar including sake. The waiters are very friendly and helpful. The atmosphere is great for hanging out with friends before heading to a bar. It's underground and has dark lighting. I will be back.
Pros: full bar, great atmosphere, fresh fish
