A friend of mind recommended this restaurant and so I took several friends there this past Thursday. Due to lack of reservations though, our wait was a bit longer than usual as we were told, but they did comp us with free french fries, which was congenial, we thought. The atmosphere was fun enough for our lively group, and it was good to get friendly, knowledgeable service from the waiter (very knowledable on the food and what wines to pair with it). Overall, we were pleased and would definitely go back again.

Ate at Nopa last night with another couple and thoroughly enjoyed it. Great food and hip setting ( along with a bustling bar) make it a really fun spot for a get together with friends. The bar makes fantastic cocktails - try the Old Cuban or the Hai -Q. Dinner was excellent. Standouts included the flatbread and the calamari for appetizers. Flatbread is a must! For entrees the duck really is extraordinary. It's actually lean, flavorful and juicy unlike a lot of duck dishes. The hamburger definitely gets you the most mileage for your buck - it's great. The pork chop is awesome. Halibut is fine but doesn't shine as much as the others. Dessert options are tasty but not standouts. Had the sopaipillas which are like donuts.
Definitely recommend this restaurants. One of my favorites in SF.

I was taken to Nopa last weekend by a friend who used to be a chef there, and the food absolutely shined. The fried fish was great, but the flatbread stole show for appetizers - house-made bacon, zuccini and goat cheese on an impossibly thin perfectly crispy crust. It was amazing. We shared everything - salad, pork chop, and halibut, and it was all fresh and very impressive. The pork chop was brined and then expertly grilled - it was phenomenal. We didn't have room for dessert, but they make the best sazerac I've had and my dining partners were equally happy with their libations. The next time I'm in SF I'm making a beeline for this place.
Pros: Food, cocktails
Cons: Sometimes a long wait for a table

Got there late on a Saturday night without a reservation, and was seated immediately at the Chefs bar. Had three appetizers: 1)Warm Goat Cheese-Fabulous, melted in my mouth; 2)Flat Bread-Satisfied my carb cravings and had great flavor, similar to a this pizza crust without the cheese; 3) Fries-Unique and good Garlic Aioli sauce; 4) Shaved Asparagus-This was the best, full of flavor and fun! Overall, the experience was great. Never felt rushed or was looking for the server. The late night dining experience was fabulous!
Pros: The atmosphere and great service
Cons: I could not stop eating!!

Nopa is a neighborhood, urban rustic eatery at the corner of Divsadero and Hayes. They serve upscale, but still reasonably priced, new-American/Mediterranean fare. Their wine selection is admirable, and their bar / cocktail area is pretty nice. Service was great and the atmosphere very welcoming and low-key. I got their burger (on personal recommendation) and it was pretty tasty. Their menu changes a fair bit, but is always pretty interesting.
It's right near The Independent. Apparently the building used to be a bank (it has uber high ceilings).
I also must say, the bathroom is a bit...conceptual. Both the men and women share a common sink area. I thought it kind of different. This would be a cool weeknight or weekend spot. I saw several people on casual type dates.
I'd definitely go back.

was taken here by a good friend of mine and from the hype that i was told about, it was indeed just all hype. the fried fish appetizer was good, but i think it's hard to mess up anything fried. but i will give it to them anyway. the halibut was subpar to say the least. although the asparagus was perfectly cooked. the churros was also good. overall, i would not recommend this place.

I don't know what the others are talking about. I have been to Nopa 4 times and it's been consistently excellent every time. Charming waiters(resses), excellent customer service, delicious food and wine, decent prices and wonderful atmosphere. All the ingredients you need for a great night out. I've taken friends and family there and it's quickly become one of their favorite restaurants in the city. One of my favorite dishes is the Moroccan Vegetable Tagine - yummy! Highly recommend this place.
