Just read that its amongst the best in JB's best restaurant's in San Francisco and it deserves all the accolodes. This place has the best tikka masala in the bay area. The prices are low and the food absolutely out of the world. Pakistani and Indian cuisine a little spicy for the American palate but this place is almost always buzzing with activity with people from all races and all parts of the world. Long waits are common

The food is as good as the old place, but the decor and ambiance is excellent. The old place was very small and crowded like a delivery shop, but this place is spacious and beautiful. The service is quick and the staff is good. they have good vegetarian as well as non-vegetarian food. You will feel really relaxed and this is a good place for a date dinner.
Worth a visit!

If you are in the mood for the best dry non vegetarain food, shalimar is the best option. reminds you of the food that one gets in indian dhabas. greasy but great tasting food. food with curries are greasy but go for the dry stuff (they ahve great tandoori and kabas) very cheap meal for 8-9 people is going to cost about 120 bucks. Not a good place for vegetarians even though they have a few options

The first time I had Indian food was at Shalimar Restaurant, and oh, what delicious food they have! They have a warm atmosphere with pretty decor, and as soon as you walk in, you'll smell all the delicious smells cooking up. I absolutely LOVE the Chicken Masala, although I'm sure it's really fattening (it has a lot of cream and sugar). I also love their eggplant dishes, and of course, their naan. I also recommend their mango lassis (sp?) which are absolutely delicious (and a great way to relieve your mouth of the spicy food you had).
P.S. Make sure that you really like Indian food, because after even just looking around in Shalimar, you WILL come out smelling like curry. :)

Shalimar serves fantastic Indian and Pakistani specialties in a truly no-frills restaurant. The food is very well made, and very inexpensive. Shalimar is well-known and usually crowded, but rarely full. The location isn't the best (on the edges of the Tenderloin), the interior is run down, and you order from the counter. However, those are the things that make Shalimar one of the best finds in San Francisco.
