This place has pretty good food, not outstanding but better than a lot of places in North Beach. On the other hand, it is a little corny and the music can be pretty loud. We got the feeling that most of the people in there were tourists, and the restaurant appears to cater to that. Not that there's anything inherently wrong with this, especially if you're with out of town guests who want to do touristy things, but it may not be the best choice otherwise.

There’s the steps of Rome Trattoria and the Steps of Rome main restaurant. The regular section is where the action is, singing waiters and all that, but the food has been dissapointing every time I’ve gone there. It’s an entirely different quality than is served in the trattoria, where everything is a little more expensive, but the food is so authentic. For some reason, I always end up ordering something off the menu, not that the menu is lacking, but I’m always hankering for a specific combination and they nail it every time. Can’t think of a more romantic place to take that special someone. One of the few places I've eaten at in North Beach that wasn't a huge letdown.

Just by chance we ended up at Steps of Rome Trattoria on Friday night. It's a really small and quaint place. I didn't have any expectations but the food was out of this world. I had the pork medallions and my boyfriend had the fusilli. We finished with panna cotta in the shape of a heart. I give it a 9 overall. Pros: food, service, dessert Cons: size

We arrived, running 10 mins late, but called 20 mins before our table was to be seated to say we were on our way, they said NO PROBLEM. One of party was already there and tried to be seated, they refused! They gave away our table, They denied recieving a phone call nor were they aware a member of our party was there - ALL LIES! They promised to seat us in 45mins, on return they didn't have a table for us at all. The manager again made excuses saying the concierge had told him we weren't coming back! The manager was rude, obnoxious and decietful. Never once accomodating or reassuring that we would be seated. He shifted blame to his staff for miscommunication. Our party will spread the word about the complete lack of the no 1 quality a good restaurant possesses - CUSTOMER SERVICE. Pros: None Cons: Poor Customer Service

Great little restaurant, Can be a little busy at the weekends, but is well worth the wait. The staff are amazing, they go above and beyond, they are very polite and make you feel like a million dollars, plus they can be counted on to throw open the windows and serenade the passer bys. The food is great, very tasty and well presented. I reccomend the Chicken in a Vodka Sauce, very tasty. The actual restaurant is in a prime location, right in the heart of North Beach.

I organzied a birthday party for my aunt and a big group of 22 of us went to Steps of Rome Trattoria. I was nervous because it looked so small but they pulled off the night like true pros. The kitched was fast with our food and it was really good. The waiters were so friendly and did not seem flustered by all of our demands. The price point was very reasonable too for what you get. I will be back the next birthday party that I organize. It made me look great. Pros: service, good food, fast Cons: decor
