Ever since I moved to San Francisco, I've been going to Sophie's. After taking a stroll through Japantown, it's hard to miss Sophie's. There is that crepe batter in the air or the line of people waiting or just staring at the crepes flip before being filled. It's a great snack or small dessert when in Japantown. The only decent savory crepe is the chicken salad. This is definitely a quick on-the-run crepe and not an extensive creperie. It's more of a Japanese creperie (duh) so there's definitely Asian-friendly flavors, like lychee, green tea, red bean. My favorite is always the strawberry and nutella... yum!
Pros: Sweet crepes, tasty
Cons: Limited menu

This place has great crepes. You walk by and the smell of crepe batter is delicious! Stand at the window and you will be mesmerized at how talented the crepe makers are at not ever spilling batter over the edge of the griddle. I used to go for the crepes, but once I had a taste of their sorbets and sorbettos, I no longer get crepes! Lychee sorbetto is so good. Get two scoops to get your money's worth.
Pros: good value, could go for lunch or dessert
Cons: not much fruit put in fruit crepes

Tried Sophie's Crepes in Japantown for the first time today and really liked it. I was initially thinking the prices were expensive, but the mixed fruit & ice cream crepe was quite large. These are really good. Numm! I'll have to go back and try the savory crepes next time. It is located on the 2nd floor just at the top of the stairs in the Kinokuniya Building.

Great Crepes. Compared to the crepes I've tried in San Francisco so far, Sophie's Crepes is the best so far. Located in Japantown, Sophie's has a friendly atmosphere that provides delicious crepes at decent prices (or at least the last time I checked). Great fruit crepes with nutella. Yummie.
Downside, it can be crowded - depending on time of day.

This quaint little spot is found in the midst of an indoor plaza in Japantown. Several years back, I did an Ethnographic Research paper for my Master's degree. I was required to observe in this plaza for a certain amount of hours per week. Iwill definitely say that during this time I learned much about the subculture in Japantown and in the meantime fell in love with these delicious crepes. The green tea ice cream is also a nice choice on the menu. Enjoying the surroundings is part of the fun.

there always seems to be a crowd in front of the store watching the employees make crepes.. maybe that is the appeal of this place. personally, I find the crepes a bit on the bland side and not really cheap either. but it is one of the few places that is open at night in Japantown, so it is probably worth it just to drop by to try it out.

Sweet, yummy, luscious crepes before your very eyes! Always a treat (and a temptation!) when in Japantown, it's a great deal with fast and friendly service. If you end up in line, you get to watch them pour the batter and work their magic as they create the ultimate savory or sweet crepe. Filled with gelato or with ham/cheese, a sure treat!
Pros: inexpensive, friendly, tables to sit at
