They have a really good chicken burrito. And the staff is nice too. It is located in random corner of the mission, they've expanded their dining room space significantly next door.

These folks know how to make their burritos. Everyone who works there is part of the same family, and you get a great vibe. We eat here at least once a week - the fish tacos are fantastic!

Don't be fooled, for the handicap entry there are another set of doors that can accomodate someone in a wheelchair..

Pros: Very Clean (100% score on gov rating), friendly service, tasty food
Cons: very limited drink selection, unless you want Mexican drinks...which really isn't a con, but I was craving a diet coke!

A Mexican gem? No precious gem here. Bland food. No flavor. I suppose if you wanted Latin American food disguised to be Mexican food then go for it. Everyone else here seems to like it but as a taqueria zealot, I was very disappointed. Where's the pozole or menudo? Not to be found. Keep driving.
Pros: clean, menu choices
Cons: limited seating, limited parking, no flavor

Living in the Mission District, there's one thing you can count on: good burritos! I always hit up El Metate when I have a craving for Mexican food. It's a tiny place, but you can always take it to go. It's also cheap and the portions are quite hearty.

Could be one of the cleanest Taquerias in the Mission. As such, people think it's worth the extra money and call this place their favorite. But let's be honest – what's up with those chips? They're multicolored (cool) but have the strangest consistency and crunch. Are they even made out of corn? I can't understand that people like these chips. Or the food for that matter. It's not bad, but not that great. I've eaten there a bunch. Maybe I just haven't ordered the right thing. Sigh.

El Metate is in my neighborhood, so I go there all the time. After trying out other taquerias in the area, I realized how much better than they are than everywhere else. I think I have been spoiled from being just a couple blocks away from there. I highly recommend the burritos, quesadillas, tacos, and probably everything else on the menu. Very friendly, quick service, and great food! Not a sit down place due to the limited seating, but if there's room, squeeze in and make yourself at home.
Pros: great food, fast service, inexpensive
