Authentic italian food in this off-the-beaten-track restaurant. The chef comes from Chez Pannise, the Sommalier was imported from Italy (along with the wines), and the owner is there every day in this elegant new restaurant. The service is exceptional--nice and knowledgable professional wait staff.
I just ate there again (September 2005) and it was superb. Try the cheese plate as a starter (it's only on the dessert menu). The steak was SUPERB, and the desserts are to die for.
One of the best meals I've eaten in ages--all with perfect service and attention to detail.

I'm confussed? I walked into a neighbor Italian restaurant in the working class neighborhood of Noe Valley. My expectations where of a simple straight forward trattoria... you know, warm greetings, attentive servers, good wine and flavorful food. WHAT HAPPENED???! A sloppy hostess, wait staff that looked every where but at their tables, over prices wine and dishes that lacked all the fussion their thought demanded. Is it possible to add injury to insult? At Incanto, YES! A 5% service charge on a party of 2. All this for just 5% gratuity. I suppose so, or do you think they are hoping for you to over look this SMALL matter?! Or is this all they know their service is worth! ATTENTION: SCRUTINIZE YOU CHECK!!! Better off skip this joint all together.

Back in 2003 when the Top 100 was compiled Im sure this place was a colossus, but it is nothing more than a shadow of its former self. Obviously, something recently happened to this much hyped, towering pillar of San Franciscos Italian cuisine. Did it change hands? Did the Chef and wine Sommelier leave town? Whatever happened happened and the problems run deep. Unfortunately, the food was almost as bad as the wine. Boring and uneventful. The wait, however, was worse. 1 hour and 20 minutes passed between the starter and the main course before the Entree hit the table. The staff were inattentive and ignored polite nods for service. Seriously, if youre thinking of eating here, do yourself a favor and get a cheap Chinese takeaway instead - you'll wish you had.

I have been going to Incanto since in opened 2 years ago and the food is better than ever. I love the Cavatelli with house made guanciale and the fig and tomato salad was awesome too. The chef is curing his own meats and sometimes they offer things like lardo, salami and mortadella. I will definately keep Incanto on my short list of neighborhood eateries.

I was very disappointed with my recent dining experience at Incanto. Although the decor is quite impressive, and the hostess was very pleasant, I was underwhelmed by just about everything else, particularly the food. The Antipasto for two was both boring and expensive. A very strange concoction of unappetizing items thrown together. Having grown up in an Italian household, I know of what I speak. The breadsticks were the best part of it. The fish dish I ordered as my entree was grossly undercooked--I don't recall ordering Sushi, not to mention tasteless. I would suggest Michael Bauer rethink his list of Top 100 Restaurants. This restaurant is certainly not deserving of such a lofty postion in a city/bay area known for it's outstanding cuisine.

What a pleasant surprise. This place is not only a great neighborhood restaurant, it is one of the best Italian places in the City. The wine list is superb, with plenty to choose from in the moderate and high-end price ranges. Also a great value (unless you are the sort to whine about spending $75 for dinner for two). Great ambience (although a bit noisy when it's full) and good service as well. The cuisine is similar to Napa stalwarts Tra Vigne and Don Giovani, and equally well executed. Bravo!

Incanto is in my neighborhood, so I've been there countless times. The food is consistently great. Innovative, with classic roots, great ingredients, and well executed. Prices are fair for the quality of food. Service can sometimes be quirky, but I've grown fond of that as well. Worth taking a trip across town. Also.. they are always busy, and yet it is almost always possible to get a walk-in table.

Everything about my time at Incanto was wonderful. The restaurant is beautiful, but has a relaxed, comfortable atmosphere. The wine was delicious, and the food was prepared perfectly with fresh herbs and other wonderful flavors. I cannot say enough nice things about Incanto. I highly recommend it!!!

Couldn't wait to try this new restaurant in my 'hood based on the user reviews I read. In short, I shouldn't have to pay $75 for dinner for two for bland food and spotty service. Hostess was very friendly but server was M.I.A. for the latter half of the meal. Both the branzino (bass) and porchetta (pork belly--which was tough and chewy) lacked any flavor. Had to ask for seasonings. Dessert (panna cotta) was very good but also very small (2 bites!). Highlight of the meal were the wines. Save your money and go to another new Italian joint, The Last Supper Club.
