This place has absolutely fabulous food (french served in small plates 'tapas' style) but the service is very hit or miss. The place can also get obscenely crowded and loud. If you go I really recommend sitting outside on the patio (heated and beautiful with white christmas lights and inside a gorgeous white tent) - it's much nicer than the interior of the place and less loud. Again, food is absolutely fabulous - but the service can leave ALOT to be desired. Try to skip their busier nights like Sat and go on a slower weeknight instead.
PROS: Great Food
CONS: Too loud inside and sometimes poor service

I was so displeased with this restaurant that I came right home to write this review. The food was appalling - greasy and heavily laden in sauces. The intended effect appeared to be continential European franco-tapas - even the waiters carried the French lilt and eye-rolling rudeness. My biggest disappointment, however, besides being herded to the back room dining area, was the food itself. We ordered 3 dishes each (mainly under duress after two waiters individually advised us that what we had ordered originally was NOT ENOUGH!). Be warned - this place is not worth any connoisseur's time. Good for tourists staying at the nearby Lombard Street motels.
Pros: Location for tourists
Cons: Food, Ambience, Service

Have heard so much about Isa for the last year i had to go. Ordered six dishes, the first two took half a hour to make it to the table, no apology nothing, take in note they werent that busy. Tried th sea bass wrapped in potato and thought it was not that great, the fish was overcooked and the potatoes were burnt. duck was dry and did not even finish. Dessert ordered vanilla creme brulee and discovered there was no vanilla. The server was not attentitve when he did come around was rude.

We were seated promptly and the food was delicious as ever. The food can come out slow when it's super busy, but well worth the wait.
Pros: Food, Service, Ambiance

This has got to me one of my most favorite restaurants in the city. The prices are affordable and the patio is so charming! I love that the owner chef (Luke) and his wife are always around and working.
The only thing is, make sure you ask for a seat outside when making reservations. It's always heated when chilly. The inside is tiny and crowded and not nearly as charming.
Pros: food, ambience

I have NEVER encountered such bad service in the city - not only did we have to ask for water and bread, and for the heat lamp to be turned on, our waiter forgot half of our wine orders, and then snottily told our party of ten that we needed to order AT LEAST 21 plates because everything was small and only came one plate at a time. I have never experienced such overly rude over-selling and even after telling him that we were fine w/ what we had selected, he kept prompting us to order more than one of each item we had selected. If the gratuity hadn't already been included in the check, I'm not sure if I would have left a dime to reward such unbelievable behavior.

This is one of our favorite restaurants in the city! The food is just amazing. Every once awhile they update the menu and it always brings suprises! The size of the plates are good for small groups to share and price is reasonable. Remember to save room for dessert. The waiters/waitresses are very friendly. The only down side is that it does take a long time to be seated even though we make reservations. Well, guess it's just so nice there that people don't want to leave even after they are done!
Pros: Food, Inexpensive , Service
Cons: Poor parking, Long wait

Isa is the place to go to for delicious small plate cuisine that simply melts in your mouth. A must is to sit in the patio area. It has this romantic cozy feel to it. I give the food an A+++. The only down side is the service. Especially during weekends they are bad at mantaining timely reservations, but I have to say the food makes up for it. By far my #1 recommendation to my friends.

No matter how good the food is, the service is HORRIBLE. These people are the rudest and most inconsiderate I have dealt with. I made a reservation for my anniversary 3 weeks in advance, and two days before I called to confirm and got a voice mail message saying the place was closed for vacation for the next week. They didn't even bother to let me know. When I called back once they re-opened all they said was "well, mistakes happen." No apologies or anything.
Cons: Service, Staff

Went on a wednesday and the place was packed by 8pm. Go early and make reservations. The staff is very nice and made recommendations. Seabass with Potato and the Clams were very nice. The roast chicken is also very tasty. All the sauces were unique and tasty. Only thing to complain about was the burnt creme burle. Other then that, a fine dining experience.
