I was in San Francisco this weekend and we had dinner at ISA (located in the Marina). The ambiance was very warm and the service was great. We were greeted by our server and was seated quickly. Their menu was just enough. I didn't get overwhelmed with all the choices. The portions are decent and we all shared our dishes. We had the Foie Gra (the pieces were big and the taste was very light and flavorful), the seared Scallops (delicious!), sea bass wrapped with potato skin (this was one of the most memorable plate), and the free range chicken with sage. All the dishes came quickly and all tasted very good. We had the crab salad with mango and green apples (very refreshing). For dessert we had the grapefruit granite and the flourless cake. The granite was so refreshing, I could have ate the whole bowl by myself. The cake was awesome! It wasn't too sweet or rich, just perfect.
If you're ever in the SF area, you must visit this place. It's one of the best small plates place I've been to in SF. Just remember to make reservations. The place gets very crowded!

frist thing his potato rapped sea bass that adish he got from daniel's in new york and when we got it it was so overr cooked the waiter saw it with out us saying anything to him. i known the portions are small plates but come on, 80$ later we went to in and out to fill up after we left. this place is so over rated. you know the saying " just say no". mybe the chef
should get back in his own kitchen.

Beautiful ambiance, good service, food.... a huge disappointment. The endive salad had day-old looking endives, browned on the edges and all over the leaves, making the entire salad look, well, old! Halibut - totally undercooked. Luckily I am okay with raw fish, but my date could not eat it. It had charred edges, but was completely cold inside (fresh out of the freezer onto the grill?). The roasted chicken was pink and cool to the touch near the bone as well, with two large cuts through the breast, done after it was cooked, possibly to make sure it was cooked through? Next time, test closer to the bone, we couldn't bring ourselves to eat most of the drumstick. We didn't send anything back since we heard how service can deteriote at Isa. Sad to say, the best part of dinner was the wonderfully crusty bread! Would not recommend :-(
Pros: Ambiance, Nice Server, Inexpensive
Cons: Undercooked meats, Rushed service, Food overall

Food was satisfactory, nothing spectacular for sure... back patio was nice...had to ask twice to get a heat lamp turned on. our server was decent...nice gal but rather clueless when it came to timing and finding out if we needed anything. The kicker were the rude hostess and the general manager who exuded even more disinterest and disdain for treating customers any better than terribly. Unbelievable. Rude, discourteous, and disrespectful. And I was a nice customer asking for another bottle of Veuve Cliquot and giving some very constructive advise for better service! Pass on this place.....i put up with snooty French servers when the food is extraordinary, but this is a confused sub-par tapas joint that just aint that cool.
Pros: tough one, value maybe?, 3 Pros? No-way!
Cons: Management, Service, Service

This was the worst dining experience I've ever had in my 6 years in San Francisco. The restaurant was not that crowded, although our server took about 20 minutes before acknowledging our small party. He never brought my wine, never filled a water glass, never brought my guest's entree, and never apologized for one thing!!! The food was OK, but over-priced for what it was. I have never left a $0 tip in my life but this guy didn't get a penny on our $130 bill for two people. Too bad for him and too bad for the restaurant.

Went there with a date on a weekday before 7 pm for the 3 course price fixe menu. What a deal! Seated by the window, the food was amazing and the waiter/waitress/host were all very attentive. Yes, we were asked by various people at various times how our meals were and whether everything was all right. Pet peeve: water glasses not full. Never happened. Okay, maybe once, but I drink like a fish. As I was leaving, I accidently knocked over a wine glass and broke it, but the host? only asked if everyone was all right and said he'd clean it up so please don't worry. Would go there again in a heartbeat.

This was the worst restuarant experience I have ever had in the city. I am shocked that it is still in business. I don't know why someone would ever return to such a horrible place. The service is HORRIBLE. The waiters are rude and forgetful. We waited over 10 mintues before we were even acknowledged at our table. And the waiter asked "Do you need anything?" As if, we wern't there to look at menus and eat dinner. The food is okay, I have definitely had better, and it is not worth the price. I would never recommend this restaurant to a friend. I couldn't wait to leave, the only problem was that they took about 30 mintues to give us our check, after we had asked for it three times. WORST RESTAURANT EVER!

The food, atmosphere and service were incredible. My friend and I happen to stumble upon ISA's and what a great find. I've been to a lot of nice restaurants in the city, and this by far was one of the best meals I've had in a long time. I highly recommend the sea bass. You just can't go wrong with any dish that you order. The variety to choose from was great. The wait staff could not have been any nicer or more helpful. I will say that we went during the week and had a wonderful experience. ISA's is a dinning experience you don't want to miss.
Pros: variety of choices, back patio
Cons: parking
