Not for the hipster crowd, the Tadich Grill is an old-fashioned, back to basics, excellent restaurant.
From the darling neon sign out front, to the elegant wood panelled interior, to the crusty but charming waiters in their white jackets, you'll feel as though you've stepped back in time, but here that's a good thing.
Stick with the basics and you can't go wrong. PS - no reservations here so go early or expect a long wait.

Eat here if you like having a convict/frat boy wait on you.
I came into the restaurant with high hopes and hearing great things about their crab cakes.
My dinner companion was leered at throughout the meal by the waiter. At point,
he even he winked at her.
She, a professional MBA who manages a large team, became so uncomfortable during the dinner, she refused to make eye contact with him half-way through the meal.
Throughout the meal, he acted weird, in subtle bully-like ways - dropped my food in front of me, taking away my drink before I was done with it, and sneaking up behind me to surprise tie a plastic bib around my neck.
I was afraid to go to the bathroom least he come back at harass my dinner companion.
During the meal, he and his buddy who seated us got into a conversion about the how the "twins" coming in at 7:30. Sure enough, at 7:30 a well-endowed woman came in with her boyfriend.
It was like eating at a bachelor party.
The waiters are so unprofessional, rude, and just plain creepy that neither of us would ever eat there again.
Pros: Expensive seafood with a side of sexual harassment
Cons: Wait staff think they are in a strip bar and leer, discuss, and wink at women openly.

been eating there when i could since 1960. best fish anywhere, east or west coast. excellently prepared. one of the few places that will freshly prepare vegetables. spinach always good. also unusual these days can get everything garlic free. most places use so much it contaminates all the food being prepared. service good, no delay between finish of preparation and delivery to table.
downsides: rest rooms up steep stairs. can be long wait for table, no reservations.
Pros: fresh ingredients
Cons: no reservations

I even considered giving them a star because of the food. The service was the worst. My water was NEVER refilled. My mom ordered soup, and when everyone's food came, they told her it was NO LONGER available. So she had to order something different that came out AFTER we were all done. Terrible terrible service. Finally got to a point where we asked for the manager - who was just awful. I mean said sorry as he was walking away. JUST AWFULLLLLLLLLL!

Overall, the experience was less than favorable.
Upon arriving at Tadich Grill Restaurant with my boyfriend, we were greeted by a gentleman who took our name down for a table. The bar service was actually the best part of the experience since our bartender was kind enough to actually provide excellent customer service, as should be expected for a higher end establishment.
When we got seated at our table, we waited up to 15 minutes before we could even get a server to greet us and acknowledge that we were there. There was a ceramic bowl of lemons that looked like they had been sitting there since the lunch crowd, and it was now 7:30 in the evening.
Trying to remain in good spirits, when the server did finally arrive at our table, I asked a few things about the menu, specifically about the sauteed crab leg dish. I wanted to find out if it was already shelled for the dish. The server responded by saying yes, it is and also added that this way, they can turn the table over faster. Sit, eat, go. What???? Repulsive. A dinner that costs an average of about $30 per plate should be handled better than "sit, eat, go".
So I went with the sauteed crab legs and my boyfriend had the lobster tail. The food came to our table with the poorest presentation I had ever seen. The vegetables were overdone, the rice was bland, and the crab meat was tough probably because they cooked and shelled it with the early morning prep. My boyfriend's very expensive lobster ($50) was tough and overcooked, accompanied by a mediocre stuffed tomato and the same disgusting vegetables.
I would not recommend this place beyond the bar scene.
