I like the fries at Mel's and grilled cheese. It's a typical diner with typical diner food, so if that's what you're after you can't go wrong. Long hours, which is rare in S.F. Worth trying!

This is a place to stop by. It's pretty difficult to find a place that is open the hours Mel's Drive-In is open. They have a decent selection of dishes. They consist of mainly American food. I recommend there milk shakes, as they have had decent reviews. Pretty middle of the road food, but there service is very good, and I haven't had any complaints.

The main draw of Mel's is that it is open at hours when its hard to find fuel anywhere else. You'll notice the clientele consists mostly of people making a pit-stop for snacks on their way home from the bars and clubs. Mel's serves breakfast, lunch and dinner at all hours, but their desserts are the most reliably quality bet.

OMG..This 'restaurant' is still in the 1950's cusine which if you like that kinda stuff you will love this place. Thouh there really are much better places that can take MAC 'N CHEESE & put a wonderful tasty spin on it..such as BLUE on Market Street, San Francisco.
And burger are done better at BILLS PLACE on Clement....as well as CAFE DE LA PRESSE . Sorry, MEL's fries were even bad for fries go to CAFE CLAUDE on Claude Street...
MELS is NOT for Vegetarians- the iceberg lettuce will scare you...!

Mel's is always reliable for big breakfasts and delicious shakes and burgers at any time. Although they no longer have the 1950s car hops as in the days of yore, the food is as good as ever.
