Group dynamics as they are, there’s always that one jerk in the group who, when posed with the question of choosing a cheap place to eat, suggests tapas. And everyone thinks, oh, it won’t be expensive; we’ll just order a few small plates. And then you go and that same jerk is ordering rounds of sangria and – hey, why not a couple more plates of potatoes, it’s only a few more bucks between us all, right? I particularly hate getting sucked into this vortex at Ramblas because I like the food there a lot, and it’s hard for me to abstain and say, I’m not hungry, really, you guys eat. Damn, you know that’s a lie. I’m always hungry!, but once we split the bill it’s going to be $30 each and I don’t have that kind of money to blow on a frivolous meal tonight when the original plan was to get a burrito. Damn.

I know I sound like a lush for always writing about Happy Hour, but Ramblas has a good one, and they even do it on Sunday. Discounted sangria, mojitos, caipirinhas, and other drinks for all! The food is regular price during HH. Of the tapas I've tried, I found them to be very heavy (I know, it's tapas), oily, and salty. I did love their gambas al ajillo and their cold plate of cheeses and meats. It's a fun place for groups.

We recently enjoyed dinner at Ramblas with some friends. The food is great! The service was also good and the selection of tapas is varied. Go early on the weekend nights, they also take reservations. The line was out the door after 7:30 p.m. on the Saturday that we were there. The sangria is also yummy and the wait staff was nice. The atmosphere was cozy and a little loud, but a fun little place.
