We went for a business lunch with 20 people and everyone really enjoyed the food. Having heard this place was supposed to be excellent, I was little disappointed. The service was very abrupt and French. I sat on the outside of the banquet and the waitress must have hit my ponytail at least 5 times during the meal. They did keep the ice tea and water flowing. I had the Dungeness crab and avocado salad which was good but not spectacular. The beet salad had its supporters. The poached salmon and asparagus risotto was good but still not incredible. The lemon cake was wonderfully tangy. And the dark chocolate cake was bittersweet, kind of like the whole Fringale experience.
Pros: promptly seated, iced tea refills, tasty desserts
Cons: surly French service, grungy bathroom, small dining room

I suffered the most abhorently rude service here than I've experienced at any other SF restaurant. Not to mention an "upscale" eating establishment. I dine out a lot and at some of the better restaurants in Northern California.
I would not darken its door, nor recommend it to anyone I know -- despite the cuisine!
Cons: inexcusably rude

We got off to a rocky start as we waited for 45 minutes for a 7:30 reservation. The staff didn't even acknowledge that we had waited, so we were a little annoyed when we sat down. But by the end of the meal, the food had made up for it! I think the Pork was the call of the evening, and the desserts were heavenly! The lamb and steak were amazing as well. We had a wonderful time!

I have dined at Fringale 20 or 30 times. I have never had a bad meal. Actually, I've never had a single dish that I didn't think was excellent. The staff is friendly and helpful, the wine list is interesting and reasonably priced. True, the space is small and often crowded, but that is the price you pay for popularity. Fringale is always packed, and the reason is clear: the food is always excellent, remarkable and exciting. I am looking forward to my next 20 visits.
Pros: food, service
Cons: crowded

Food was fabulous! The foie gras was great and Seanyboy enjoyed the frisee salad. Main course was even better: rack of lamb and Steak/frittes. Both large portions, cooked to perfection and reasonably priced. Biggest disappointment was wine--it took 3 attempts to find a bottle they had in-house. Bartender seemed clueless as well. Next time, BYOB and a hearty appetite.
Pros: Food, Good Parking, Reasonable
Cons: winelist, bar service
