Everyone says to try the dry fried chicken, but that was not my favorite. Cherry Pork is the dish to try. It has cherry and ginger and the texture is perfect. We tried it on a lark and were pleasantly surprised. The dumplings and potstickers were excellent. We had peanut noodles as well which were delicious.
The prices are unbelievable, $8-$10 for a lot of dishes. They have lots of group seating with big tables and lazy susans. The place is PACKED, so be ready for a wait. We waited about 20 minutes on a Sunday night. Also, the clientele is almost entirely Chinese, which I always take as a good sign that the food is authentic.
Pros: Delicious, inexpensive, Fast
Cons: They try to rush you out a little bit, but only because there's always someone waiting to get in behind you

My brother-in-law took us here during a recent trip from NYC and the food was absolutely delicious! The pan Asian noodles were fabulous and not heavy - they claim that they aim to satisfy their noodle obsession while substituting oils with citrus juices. I had an incredible cold spicy lime coconut soba noodle salad with veggies and chicken and a slushy lemonade. Mmmm... ! Nice, sleek urban noodlehouse ambiance. Inexpensive. Great service. We were able to hang out here for a long time after we finished our lunch w/ no problems. Had to recommend this place to others, it's a fabulous find in a cool neighborhood!
Pros: FOOD, location
Cons: A bit small

A guy I dated once took me here for a first date, and I was impressed! It is super-small, so it had a cozy, neighborhood feel to it. Service was good and the food was excellent! If I wasn't such a good girl, I would've let him get further than first base... ;)
Pros: Loved everything
Cons: ?

I absolutely love the Pad Thai! The food is good, the prices are very reasonable, the only caveat would be the crowd. Make sure to beat the lunch and dinner rush, if you can't beat it, call in ahead of time and pick up your food. You won't be disappointed.

Wow. That's all I can say...I have, up to now, been very dedicated to Shimo #1 on Clement, with Shimo #2 on Taraval as a standby for convenience. However, I just moved WAY out in the Sunset, and last Friday evening, after shlepping the last of our things to the new place, my boyfriend, David, our dear friend, Symon, and I decided to try the nearby Sushi spot. I was SO impressed! Granted, I prefer ordering directly from the sushi chef rather than filling out the little form, but, aside from that detail, I was thrilled with our meal. I love white tuna and hamachi sashimi, and I have rarely found it so pristinely, mouth-wateringly fresh as ours was. The nigiri sushi was equally fresh and generously proportioned. Another great favorite of mine is tobiko with quail egg. Normally, this is created with a seaweed wrap, but at Tazaki, it came with a combination of tobiko and black caviar, wrapped in a thin piece of tuna. Exquisite! There is a generous and varied selection of rolls, and many varieties of sake. The service was cheerful and efficient. I feel so fortunate to have discovered this gem, and to have it so near - within walking distance. Parking would not be too bad, but might take a couple of turns around the block...WAY worth it, though. I'll be back again and again
Pros: Freshest!
Cons: Can't think of any

a bold statement, i realize. the menu has some overlap with san tung. (they are owned by the same family.) The chicken wings are the same as are the potstickers and dumplings (though they have recently discontinued this at so's, at least for the time being). These are the best potstickers, dumplings, chicken wings, dry braised string beans I have ever had. Absolutely out of this world. Aside from the potstickers the best thing on the menu is the So Black Bean sauce noodles (not to confuse with the "black bean sauce noodle" - if you like the noodle dishes at san tung you absolutely must come here because there is just no comparrison this place is SO much better. as far as the review of the waitress, 1. half the wait staff is the same as san tung and 2. if you've ever been on a busy night (most nights) when the one girl is hostess, bus girl, waitress and answers the phone you can easily see how much she has to deal with. besides, it's pretty typical chinese restaurant service. not overly friendly, but not rude, and definitely very efficient. same as san tung but w/ constraint of only one person working. i just moved across town and this is the only place i will genuinely miss
Pros: sauce noodles,
Cons: unimpressed w/ rice plates

This was my grandmother's favorite Japanese restaurant in SF. (she's 2nd generation Japanese American/Nissei and lived in SF for all but 2 years of her life) She loved it because of the udon broth and I agree, that I've never tasted better. The service is generally very good, and the food is always a good deal. It's not flashy, it's a genuine place. My favorite restaurant in SF's Japantown.

I have been going to Sapporo-ya since I was a child, and have enjoyed their miso ramen. I've even had miso ramen in Japan on several occasions, and Sapporo-ya's is the BEST. I literally compare all other miso ramens to Sapporo-ya's and I have yet to enjoy any other miso ramen the way I enjoy the one here. I can't comment on any of the other ramens or dishes at Sapporo-ya because I always order the same thing whenever I go. If you?re looking for something good to eat during your next visit to San Francisco's Japantown, I highly recommend Sapporo-ya.
