The Elbo Room seems to be one of those rare Mission live music venues (not including all the Latin music clubs) where people still go to dance their ass off and not just stand disaffectedly nodding heads. They've got great lineups of funk and latin and other danceable live band genres. I also like that the downstairs is always free and then you pay to go upstairs, which has worked out a bunch of times with groups of friends when not everyone wants to see live music or dance. So, this is a place we can all go together to hang out and there's no stress about who wants to do what.

Ever since the owners picked up a fancy sound system last year, this place has become the best mid-sized club for seeing live music. Bands sound incredible. My musician supergeek knob twiddler friends speak highly of it. It's about the same size as the bottom of the hill or 12 galaxies, but it's prettier and more comfortable, and for big nights they have a coatcheck upstairs. And the rickshaws are way romantic. At least one of my friends inevitably ends up making out with someone when we go to one of the dance club nights. Fridays are almost too electro-80s scene-y but again, they're pretty reliable for both the dancing and the make-out factor. I like the room; it feels grand and exciting even though it's super chill and laid-back in there. I'm a sucker for high ceilings and giant red curtains though.

Glas Kat is a very fancy and nice night club in San Francisco. It is located on 4th street and it is extremely popular so lines tend to be very long. They usually have 21 and over events but sometimes they have 18 and over ones too. It is very pretty inside and one of the better nightclubs I've been to in San Francisco.

holiday. It started when you walked in cuz the door staff was friendly and funny. The drinks were strong and the bartenders were quick and friendly. The drink prices are the best. The music was pumpin and and the crowd was loving it. The Dj even took requests. The girls were hot and approachable. I was surprised the ratio was great for guys /girls. Will be back for another turn for sure

City Nights is a popular night club in San Francisco and it is located on Harrison street. On some nights they have parties just for high school kids so if you love to dance and aren't 18 yet, check out City Nights with some friends. Like all clubs, buy tickets in advance to get them cheaper and wear something warm because lines tend to be really long. They recently remodelled and it looks great.

That adds to the charm of the place! It lends a quite intimate feel, and makes a small crowd seem like it's packed like sardines. I usually hit this place up on Saturday nights, and let me tell you... the hunnies certainly roll up in style, dressed to impress. The only downfall is the location. It's kind of off the beaten path, so definitely DO NOT park on the street. I learned this the hard way. Luckily, there is an attended parking lot in close proximity that charges ten bucks, so no worries.
Also, I forgot to mention... the system at this place absolutely SLAPS!!!

This was one of the worst bars I've been too. The floor lights up, which is kind of cool, but that was done in New York in the 1980's. I guess that fits though, since the music they play is mostly from the 80's. The staff is quite rude, and there is not much room to dance. Go somewhere else if you're looking for a night of fun.

A great beer selection, a $2.75 draft happy hour and a policy of accepting credit cards for even small bar tabs... I used to love this place until tonight, when I had to deal with at least four people smoking cigarettes (and there were probably more in the back based on the amount of smoke in the bar).
I used to be a strong advocate of smokers' rights at the turn of the millenium, but since then I have grown to appreciate not having to scrub the smoke off of me after a night of drinking. It's not even like the bartender was a smoker, he just had a "well, I'm not a smoker but I guess I am tonight" attitude.
A dozen beers on tap, soju cocktails, and credit cards accepted. The bar can keep one point for my history with them. That's it. With much better places to drink without the airborne carcinogens, this rainy Friday night will be my last time there.
