This was a very nice theater. I saw the Lion King here. The actors were very good, but of course they had been rehersing for a long time. The theater itself was nice and big, and the ushers were all uniformed and very sweet. They had souveniers and other little things to buy, but when I came in they had handed me a free bag of goodies. There were snacks and drinks/ other refreshments out for asle as well. Parking.. you will have to come by train or BART unless you want to park 3 blocks away..

Great theater! Great parking - convenient, but a tad expensive. Also, the gym I used to belong to, I believe, is at the same building. I say used to, because I've given up on that.
Now I eat hot buttered popcorn at the theater. Extra salt and butter please!

More
The Opera Plaza Theatre may not have the popular movies you see advertised on television, but for independent and foreign film lovers, this cinema is one of the best places to watch movies at. This theatre is built for people who would like a cozy, comfortable place to watch movies, as the small screening rooms (only two of them) only offer seats enough for maybe two dozen people, and the two larger auditoriums allow probably less than 100 people in each room. Most of the time, you will probably find only about a dozen people in the theatre with you, so you can enjoy the movies by yourself or with a few friends or a date. The Opera Plaza Theatre is one of the last places to catch popular independent and foreign films before they leave the Bay Area.

The Metreon houses not only movie theaters, but restaurants, stores, and fun things for kids to do. I love seeing all the new electronic gadgets at the Sony Store. They used to have a Discovery Channel Store, but I think it closed. One of my favorite stores is the comic/anime/toy store on one of the upper floors. They have lots of unique things there.

That it's guaranteed to always have a bigger crowd than say AMC, for example.
Last time I went here, there was a line for a new movie, skirting all the way down through the entire floor. Wicked!

More
This movie theater located in the West Portal area is great for watching independent movies. It shows three different movies, but I've always found the movies to be different and very well made. Years ago it used to show Hollywood blockbusters, but since the addition of twenty plus screen opening everywhere, this theater is a fresh feeling from the other ones. It's never crowded, the staff is great, and independent films get the best affect here when shown at a smaller venue. Go to this theater to get away from the crowds. You will get to see some great films like March of the Penguins, Grizzly Man, and Sideways.
