I've only been here once for an event on the rooftop and it was a rare warm night in the city. Great place for food and drinks. Mint mojitos were really good.
Pros: Great on a hot summer night.

Zuni Cafe has been around soooo long, and yet it is still so very relevant as a culinary destination. We arrived on a Thursday night and the place was packed. It was around 8pm. We were given a table in a smaller room upstairs, not bad considering we had no reservations. The server was incredibly friendly and very attentive without being overbearing. He made great suggestions and did not become negative when my friend ordered two appetizers. My friend had the polenta with marscapone and a Caesar salad. I had the rabbit salad and the flat iron steak. We split a bottle of Qupe Petite Syrah. There were other items on the menu I wanted (the beat salad, the sole, etc), so you should be able to find a selection of items that will appeal to most tastes. This place has a very sort of New York feel to it. I love it. We will be back!

I hadn't been to Annabelle's in years and was really impressed by a recent visit. They've overhauled the interior and have achieved a nice balance of classic SF decor with a comfortable vibe. I really enjoyed the bruschetta and rib-eye steak. My date had crispy duck (incredible, I ate almost half of it,) and a nice salad with organic veggies. The staff was very welcoming and unobtrusive. I can understand why locals don't want to come down to this neighborhood, but if you do, Annabelle's is not to be missed!
Pros: Great food and service, classic SF atmosphere
Cons: Not my favorite part of town

Frascati is the whole package -it has great food, a great ambiance and the staff make great recommendations. I generally get the paperdelle with sugo because it's so good I can't resist. But everything else the people who dined with me get is fantastic too. Don't forget to leave room for the bread pudding at the end though - it is so fantastic!
If your sig-o has a birthday coming up - try this place - it was the best date restaurant in the city by far!
Pros: great food, great wine recommendations

New ownership recently took over and have kept the same food and atmosphere, but the wine list is dramatically improved. Great selection of Calfornia wines in addition to the Spanish and French wines they carried before.
Pros: Easy parking and good food
Cons: Make reservations - can be a long wait on weekends

I don't typically write long reviews, but the food in this place is simply awesome. I have eaten at many different fine dining restaurants in San Francisco, and this is one of my favourites :) I love that their chef's tasting menu is not that pricey and it comes with wine pairings, how many michelin starred restaurant offer that in less than $100? it's such a good deal
i've also just heard from a friend of mine, she has this fundraiser deal from the restaurant (insider deal), you can get the 5 course chef's tasting menu at $90 with tax and gratuities included. Normal price is $75 without the tax and gratuities, so it's about a 15% discount. Not bad for a michelin starred restaurant! this deal only works if you present the coupon at the time of your meal.. you can contact her at cortezsanfrancisco@gma... and ask her for more details.. I've already gotten a pair for myself when i tried the restaurant out! =)
Pros: Best Deal
Cons: can't think of any yet

I really love to dine at Catch. there are a lot of different choices there, and my family really loves it. We are regulars, and a happy to be. There is ambiance everywhere, and the outdoor fire makes the restaurants cozy on a cold day. I really like that you can substitute parts of the dish for something that you would rather prefer. the service is really friendly, and the owner is as well.It is an all in all amazing restaurant.
Pros: They have great food, options, variety, ambiance...

While recently visiting SF, we found 2223 on citysearch and gave it a shot for our first night out for dinner. We were pleasantly surprised to find it quite the busy spot in the Castro District for drinks and dinner. We were promptly seated with our reservation without knowing the incredible treats to soon follow. For starters, the cocktails are STIFF and have fitting names like Twig and Berries, Mel's Manhandler, or the Mood Swinger. For dinner I ordered the Braised Colorado Lamb Shank with gorgonzola gnocchi and veggies. It was to die for! My date had the mushroom risotto which is also recommended. Dessert was even more tasty as we had the Apple Spice Cake and devoured every bite! The service/staff were exceptionally nice, the menu suits all taste buds, the wine/cocktails great, ambience is soothing and the prices are even better!

Mescolanza is a small, intimate, little, neighborhood, mom-and-pop restaurant that serves Italian food located on Clement Street between 23rd and 24th Avenues. It's discreetly tucked under a small pink awning. It's my favorite restaurant in my neighborhood and I've been going there for 20 years!
Please note, parking on the Clement Street corridor is difficult (almost as bad as North Beach) but there is a parking lot directly across the street from the restaurant (as Martha Stewart would say, "It's a good thing!").
This restaurant is small and seats only 49 patrons at one time so be sure to make reservations.
My favorite appetizers are the Carpaccio and Bruschetta. The plate of Carpaccio is presented with extremely thinly sliced beef draped on the plate. There are small mounds of capers, chopped red onions, shaved Parmesan cheese, and mustard paste. Mix all the ingredients and enjoy!
The Bruschetta is toasted french bread topped with a delicious sprinkling of chopped Roma tomatoes mixed with fresh basil, garlic, olive oil, and sea salt. In this day and age of almost tasteless tomatoes (inbreeding is never a good thing), the tomatoes in this dish are ripe, packed full of flavor, and fill your mouth with a burst of flavor.
The Pear Pizza (Yeah, I know, it sounds kind of strange but darling, it's divine intervention on a plate.) You have got to try this!
The Osso Bucco was excellent. The meat was very tender and flavorful in its rich burgundy-like sauce. I loved the vegetables and that's saying something for a meat eater like me. The vegetables were carrots, zucchini, and yellow squash done just right in that perfect combination of buttery, tender and crunchy at the same time.
We had a veal chop off the "Specials Menu" that was sautéd in its own juices with a blend of slow-cooked root vegetables surrounding it. It came with silky, creamy mashed potatoes that had a hint of garlic flavor and a serving of the vegetable combination I spoke of earlier. Once again, excellent!
We had the crème caramel, the tiramisu and the chocolate flan with amaretto and crushed amaretti cookies. The tiramisu and crème caramel were as expected, delicious. That chocolate flan was EXCEPTIONAL! Sinfully, silky smooth texture on a bed of crushed cookies with the hint of amaretto flavors. While we ate all the desserts, the chocolate flan won hands down.
Pros: Best Carpaccio and Gnocci in town
Cons: Seats only 49 people
