I was visiting friends in San Fran who live near Yo Yo. The whole time I couldn't get over how dark and drab the restaurant was. The walls were painted a dark blue and there was barely any lighting. Within the next couple of days I saw them painting so I have no idea what they were changing it to. Anyway, the food was overall good and fresh. I ordered sushi rolls and was satisfied. My friends got udon and their portions were HUGE! The service was excellent, and the only reason why it gets 3 stars is because of the terrible and depressing design choices.

I moved back to S.F. from L.A. about six months ago. Anyone who knows L.A. knows the sushi is amazing. I have to say that I think Yo Yo is far better than anywhere I went in L.A. Eddie, the sushi chef, knows how to buy and prep his raw fish better than anyone I have ever met. His rolls are to die for and the place is so relaxing because it is not too crowded and the family atmosphere. These two character filled sisters own and run the restaurant. It is a great experience all around.
Pros: Family Atmosphere, Fresh Fish
Cons: parking

Yo-yo combines excellent sushi, friendly service, and ample seating in an area not known for it. Who needs Go-go, when you can have Yo-yo. Honestly, I don't even know anyone who works there, but I feel compelled to sing their praises. Heck, I've told everyone I know and am a little scared that it will become too popular. Luckily for me, the 50s diner decor will keep the hordes away. Enjoy!
