Awesome little slice of Italy in the Mission. You have to take a number and wait a bit before getting your turn at the counter, but it's definitely worth the trouble. Go for their fresh made raviolis and pastas, fresh pesto and salads, and dozens of different types of deli meats like prosciutto or Spanish ham, etc. The shelves are full of interesting Italian imports like wine, sardines, olives, tubes of tomato paste, biscotti. I love browsing here and this is the perfect place to get picnic materials before heading out to Dolores Park. Only downside is that the deli items can get expensive.

Ah, a true gem of the Mission! No need to go all the way to North Beach to get all the finest in Italian produce. Lucca Ravioli Co is a tiny shop jam packed with a glorious deli counter, cans of sardines, fresh olives, salamis in the window, and delicious homemade pasta, featuring the aforementioned raviolis. I love that when I was making a seafood dish, the guy behind the counter sold me a huge chunk of Parmigiano Reggiano but told me to go to one of the local fish marts to get a much better deal on shrimp. Little gestures like that really endear me to a place. Go buy some gnocci for cripes sake!
