We drove over 100 miles to eat at this place, even after reading the reviews. We were seated right away and ordered right away but it took over an hour to get our meals. The service was super slow but friendly. There was only one server and one cook. After waiting a half hour I decided to order a pineapple shake, which was ok, I took a big drink and looked down to find a long black hair in my cup. I was so disgusted. I didn't finish it, but soon after she brought us warm bread and butter then 15 minutes after that our appetizers then 15 minutes after that a soup and our meals. I ordered Chuletas and my husband order Mofongo. The Chuletas (pork chops) were seasoned well but a little over fried and the rice was crunchy LOL I tried the Mofingo and it was decent, very seasoned and garlicy YUM...the check came to close to $40, which isn't that bad, but I had higher expectations. It can't compete to the comida in Puerto Rico but it was decent. Sad thing is I don't think we will be returning.
Pros: Not that pricey
Cons: unsanitary

Best carribean food I have ever tasted. Having visited Miami, Florida and Puerto Rico you cant get anything better in the Bay Area. The last time I was there on a Saturday and it was really busy got my food within 30 min which is great considering some high class fast food restaurants like Fridays, Dennys, and Chevys can take up to an hour when they are busy with a bunch of waiters and cooks. The waitress was amazing as she made drinks bussed tables, and delivered food. The food was amazing I have been coming here for years and I know the food is made fresh daily. Great food great ambiance the only negative is the parking.
Pros: Food, Service, Ambiance
Cons: Parking

Having lived in Puerto Rico for a few years, a cook myself, and raised in Miami, I can say that although the food is not exactly the same as on the island, it is pretty close. The service is pretty average, but if you simply wave at them as let them know you are ready to order they will be attentive. I highly recommend the the Ropa Vieja dinner. The Mofongo is a bit dry at times, but still the best in SF. Overall, I will be coming back to Fruitilandia for as long as they are open.
Pros: Inexpensive, Tasty
Cons: Parking

I also had a "batido de mamey" (mamey milkshake) which very few places get right and it was excellent. Small and homey, the service is prompt and efficient and the pricing is reasonable.

I have gone here for years, and the service is typically good. the yuca, plantains, and pork dishes are always tasty and flavorful...a down home feel and vibe for a native Puertorriqueño o Cubano!
