great place to have noodles in the heart of japantown. big portions and reasonably priced. i don't think i've ever had anything other than noodles at this restaurant so not the place to go if you are craving sushi or what not. not sure they even have sushi. good for soba, udon and all sorts of soupy noodles. we tried the fried noodles but not as good.

I've been to this restaurant a hundred times and this is one of my favorite places. The variety of sushi (and other food) is great, you will find the pretty rare types of sushi there. And you will get more fish less rice on your sushi! Unlike some other japanese restaurants they do not close 3 to 5 pm, although they now have a new schedule on monday. The place is not cheap but it is worth the money!

I found the service to be impressive. I came with my girlfriend in the heart of the dinner rush on a Saturday night and the second we sat down miso soup, edamame, and pickled seaweed were on the table. They gave me a free korean style salad "on the house" and I wondered why. But from reading the rest of the reviews here, it seems that their style is to give things to you for free. That works for me! Our orders were expedited in lightening speed. It seemed like 5 minutes. How did they have time to cook the salmon teriyaki? Nonetheless, everything was done to our liking. I was also impressed by the value. Free stuff aside, the portions are huge and the food is cheap. It's one of the cheapest Japanese (Korean-run) places I know. The food is average-good, but it will be difficult to find a better value. The only bad thing about this place is that the seating seemed tight and cramped. Our table was in the middle of two 4-seat tables and very close to them both. It was a little uncomfortable, especially since the creepy guy next to us kept staring at my girfriend the entire time.
Pros: Good value, Free food, Speedy service
Cons: Seating arrangement

I live in Manhattan and this is my regular sushi place whenever I come visit . The fish is always amazingly fresh and the service at the bar is so friendly and makes you feel at home. Great place to eat by youself (or with company). The daily specials are great, especially the toro, sweet shrimp and anything with uni. Beats almost any NYC sushi place hands down. For the quality this is very reasonably priced.
Pros: Superb fish, specials, friendly staff, reasonably priced
Cons: What's not to like?

This was my grandmother's favorite Japanese restaurant in SF. (she's 2nd generation Japanese American/Nissei and lived in SF for all but 2 years of her life) She loved it because of the udon broth and I agree, that I've never tasted better. The service is generally very good, and the food is always a good deal. It's not flashy, it's a genuine place. My favorite restaurant in SF's Japantown.

Godzilla Sushi is at a convenient location in SF (Bush and Divisadero). There are only four or five tables plus a bar, so it's a small operation. There was always a line waiting for a table when my friend Scott Faber and I were eating. The fish was good, service fast, and people quite friendly.
The only downside was the noise -- to conduct a normal conversation I had to raise my voice a bit, which can be annoying.
But I'll def return if I need sushi in Pac Heights again.

visited shimo once for dinner with a friend who recommended the restaurant. it's not that easy to see even though located on a main drag but definitely worth visiting. it's a no frills japanese place with fresh fish and great hamachi kama if you like the collar of a fish...cooked. plus parking is more doable than in other parts of the richmond district and in walking distance to great dessert places.
