This is the best restaurant in SF.
Yoko and Judy make the experience feel like going to eat at your long lost japanese family's house. The food is fantastic, with tons of creative choices and artful presentations.
The restaurant is so small that sometimes there's a long wait and that can be annoying. It is nice to see people complaining about the restaurant because if everyone had a positive experience there, I'd NEVER get a table! In fact, the owner deliberately discourages restaurant reviews in local papers because she doesn't want bigger crowds than she already has. They have a very loyal clientle who loves them as much as I do, so if you're not there for the whole experience and show up with a bad attitude, please go to one of the yuppie restaurants around the corner on Valencia instead.
Pros: Great food, good for vegans and people who want organic, wonderful owners, nice ambience once you're inside
Cons: parking, people who are in a hurry and rushing the waitstaff

Wow. That's all I can say...I have, up to now, been very dedicated to Shimo #1 on Clement, with Shimo #2 on Taraval as a standby for convenience. However, I just moved WAY out in the Sunset, and last Friday evening, after shlepping the last of our things to the new place, my boyfriend, David, our dear friend, Symon, and I decided to try the nearby Sushi spot. I was SO impressed! Granted, I prefer ordering directly from the sushi chef rather than filling out the little form, but, aside from that detail, I was thrilled with our meal. I love white tuna and hamachi sashimi, and I have rarely found it so pristinely, mouth-wateringly fresh as ours was. The nigiri sushi was equally fresh and generously proportioned. Another great favorite of mine is tobiko with quail egg. Normally, this is created with a seaweed wrap, but at Tazaki, it came with a combination of tobiko and black caviar, wrapped in a thin piece of tuna. Exquisite! There is a generous and varied selection of rolls, and many varieties of sake. The service was cheerful and efficient. I feel so fortunate to have discovered this gem, and to have it so near - within walking distance. Parking would not be too bad, but might take a couple of turns around the block...WAY worth it, though. I'll be back again and again
Pros: Freshest!
Cons: Can't think of any

The best burger in the city($12)!! Also try Kumamoto oysters, crudo, panko halibut with creamed leeks, Korean chili marinated pork ribs and shitake dumplings in dashi broth, just to name a few. Small share plates allow you to try 8-12 dishes for a table of four. Every dish was soooo delicious and creative. Extremely fresh ingredients. Seasonal menu that focuses on local and organic. Extensive premium sake selection. The executive chef owns the restaurant with his two brothers. Beautifully designed contemporary minamilist and great ambiance. The bathroom sink is rad! I hear they have tasty brunch on the weekends and late night/happy hour drinks and food wed-sat 11-1am. My new favorite place in SF!
Pros: knowledgable servers, amazing food and memorable experience
Cons: parking can be a drag but worth it. ride bike or cab it

$20 all you can eat on wed. and sun. from 4-9pm. Great quality and an even better price. It gets bust on Sunday nights so go early and miss the crowd, try the Golden Gate roll!

This place has the best noodle soups anywhere. Perfect for a cold day or when you just want something comforting and delicious. There's a wide variety of different soups, noodle dishes, and sushi as well. The ingredients are fresh and delicious, and you can't beat the prices. The sushi rolls are also very good. Love it!
Pros: Soups, Sushi
Cons: None

I love to eat and therefore I love restaurants. I have been to both the Cole St. and Hyde St. locations since 97 and the food is absolutely incredible. Their menus exhibit some of the more traditional items but also get creative with delectable results. A broad selection of beverages are available both of the alcoholic and non-alcoholic varieties. Their appetizers are amazing (pot stickers, soybeans, saladsyou name it). Their sushi is fantastic, ultra fresh, and the kitchen foods are equally delicious. My favorite hot food items are the Sizzling Clay Pot and the Red Snapper entree. The portions are generous, which isnt often the case in many restaurants and the service, especially on Hyde St., (it's much larger which helps) is very gracious. All things considered, I think its the best value for Japanese food in the city.
Pros: Food, Variety, Ambiance

Who said sushi has to be expensive in order to taste good? I personally know the owners of this great establishment. I met them over 16 years ago when they were just starting out in the UCSF area. This particular restaurant is very small. It is always packed because of the excellent quality sushi they serve and very cheap. I love them california rolls with tobiko. They specialize in rolls. They have different types of sushi rolls named after football teams and baseball teams in the bay area. Fun place
